Exclamation painting engine plenum bad idea?

Well i painted the engine plenum the other day by taping and news-papering up the whole engine bay. But prior to doing so i attempted to remove the plenum and broke one of the chrome nuts still attached to the bolt. Well my car is due for service and frankly im a little worried that I might have gotten myself into a big headache. What do you guys think, would the dealer give me any problems? I mean afterall it is just a chrome nut..

I dont know why anyone would paint their plenum. Was it worth it?

Actually the two chrome bolts hold the two halves of the plenum together, eventhough they are glued on. I don't think anything will happened, and I really don't think that the dealer would give a flip if you painted the plenum or not. All they are going to do is the maintenance and that is it. Unless you tell them to fix it and they'll let you know how much your screw up is going to cost you.

Good point! Worst case scenario I remove the broken half of the chrome screw with a screw extractor and buy a 5 dollar new one to replace it.

Yeah, but remember that the bolt will have a nut on the other side of the plenum. So you must take the plenum off and take the nut from underneath and then replace it with a new one. It is not that hard to take it off. You must loosen all 8 holder screws from the throtle bodies and pull a couple of hoses and wires and then you can pull up on the plenum. There is a DIY thread somewhere on this.

Will do, need to change out the sparkplugs so the plenum has to come off anyways.

It sucks our winter season is 5 months long!

Those 2 long studs with the 2 chrome nuts are just to press the 2 halves together while they bond. You'd probably destroy them if you try to separate them. Just glue the chrome cap so it looks nice and call it a day . Oh yes, and next time SEARCH before doing anything to your car . Have a good one.
