E92 M3 / E46 M3 / CSL performance #'s from Auto Bild Sport Cars-November issue

They tested the last four M3 produced by BMW
Track lenght 3.667 MT.

m3 e46 -
m3 e92
Interesting the duell between the last two...

Final lap times:

e36 1:53,4
e46 1:52,3
e92 1:47,2 (5,1sec faster)

Max speed
e46 193,29km-h
e92 204,20km-h

Tires:
Michelin Pilot Sport for all the cars but for the
e30 they used :Pirelli P 6000
So no sport Cup.

weights:
e46 1.555kg
e92 1.635kg
e36 1.460kg
e30 1.200kg

Other lap times : (they have more than 300 cars tested)

m3 csl (sport tires) 1.46,60 sec.(40th position)
m6 1.46,90 sec (43th posizione)
m3 e92 1.47,20 sec (48th) (no sport tires and only 0,6 sec slower)
m5 1.48,55 sec (60th)
m3 e46 1.52,30 sec (130th)

So the gap between the new M3 and the e46 is 5,1 sec.
The gap between the e46 and the previous e36 is only 1,1 sec.
On this track....

Seems to be a lot faster than the E46 M3 and only a little slower than the CSL. Nice.

Way heavier than the 1605 kg figure from the Italian mag. Wasn't that your post as well? 1605 was very encouraging, 1635 is quite a bit more. What do you think the difference is attributed to?

Hi..
I checked and unluky they don't mention (both the reviews) exactly which options the two cars had into those weights.
I can't help sorry..But I can mention that the difference between the two German M3 (e46 and e92) is correct. About 80 kg.

bye

Hi..
I need your opinion and help.I want to Post all the time only correct numbers and all points of view...so:
I know that (probably) in February the same Magazine tested another e46. There are rumors that in February that car was faster than the car tested in November. So since you speak German better than me () can you discover why this difference? why if it is true they didn't use the lap time of February that seems faster ?
In November the difference is 5,1 sec with same tires. If we consider the February test the difference is 2,8 sec between the e46 and e92 (still very good). Did they use Cup tires? why they don't consider in November issue the February's lap time?
bye and thanks

Great post... and the only slight difference between the E92 and CSL is awesome considering the CSL was on cup tires and the E92 was not.

And some say the new M3 is not that much better than a regular E46 M3 performance wise
