you think that's a wicked ticket, here in Ontario 50km+ (31mph) over the speed limit and you lose your car and license for 7 days and face a ticket from $2000-$10,000, then goodluck with insurance...

Man that is pretty mean! But honestly IMO it's his fault. Why would you start something on the road like that if you are not familiar with the surroundings? I just hate to say it, but it sucks for him. That is just the way I look at it.

Matter of fact I had a similar story. Not racing just speeding and I was the rabbit. Well I thought I was the rabbit. I was in my car with a guy tailing me for awhile. I was coming up on an area that I knew cops always hide. Sure enough as I was getting closer radar was picking the cop up. I was nice enough to tap on the brakes 3 times to let the guy know before I slowed down. There was no other cars on the road, in the middle of the night and 3 lanes riding in the middle. Instead of slowing down the guy got in the left lane and flew past me. As soon as he got in front of me the cop turned on his light and went after him.

yeah funny thing, I was driving from Windsor to Toronto. I was doing 100mph. The lady friend I was with me told me: you realize that the posted speed limit is in KM and not in Mph. I was like what ! No wonder everyone was driving slow.

While my M3 is new, I have driven BMW's for more than 20 years... the previous three being a 540, a 545 and a 550. People always want to race.

I won't say I never have some fun, but I can say I will rarely take the bait. One thing is for certain though, I NEVER will race a kid. The last thing I want to live with is someone's son crashing his car and killing himself while racing with me. Kids have no fear, and you never know when a young mind won't know when enough is enough and lose control of the situation.

I would certainly hope that someone would use the same common sense with my son or nephew.

+1

Street racing is dumb! Cars are a deadly weapon in the wrong hands.

^^very good post. That's why I don't street race. If you really want to drive fast, bring it to the track or find an empty airport or something.

Imagine if you will, the difference between riding in the M3 at 120 and a Tiburon at 120. One wrong move in the Tiburon would be catastrophic.

Really bad judgement on the Tiburon's part. But then with a fart can, wing etc he is the model of bad judgement.

Good on you for stitching him up.

Had a similar situation with Maxima on a highway trip. The beauty of the M3 is you can pick a speed and go that fast the whole time whether its uphill, downhill or around a corner. For me this means between 30km/h and 40km/h over the limit and rarely more.

This guy couldn't keep up through the twisties, then would cane the thing to double the limit on the straights and pass me. Then I'd cruise by him on the next hill or corner. Was almost comical, he was thinking I was the problem when all I was doing was a consistent speed. After about an hour of this he blew buy me on a straight at what had to be everything the Maxima had and disappeared over a crest. My V1 sparks up, I slow down and there's buddy being chased down by a cop. LMAO.

Didn't see him for the rest of the trip. Imagine he received a giant ticket if not a wreckless driving citation.

In Honolulu, 30+ over the posted speed limit, or 100mph will get you instantly cuffed, no questions asked.

I "enage" into his street race and make it appear as if its a close race and let him pull a slight lead as we enter the bend in the highway. Then I floor it just, blast past him and then....

Right before we enter the line of sight of the cop @ ~120mph I slam on my brakes. He rockets right into the cops radar doing over 120mph and gets pulled over. I'm laughing my ass off.

I know i could have waited until we passed the speed trap and smoked him but that would have been so lame.
Drivers like you give the M3 a bad name. I would arrest both of you for dangerous and stupid driving.

The car attracts the attention of drivers with Honda Civics, Subaru WRXs, and STis more than it does the interest of fellow 3 series owners.

I read a lot of stories in here about guys getting challenged. I've had my car 7 months and haven't had that experience. Perhaps it's because I'm 40 something, or perhaps because my car is an understated Space Gray, or maybe because I have the understated 18" wheels. Or maybe all of the above.

Maybe it's where I live, I'm on the outskirts of the Philly 'burbs. I dunno.

^^I think most of the posters are just BS to boost their ego. I'm 27 and never get a challenge in the past 1 year.

Well... I'm 40, and I had two challenges just on the drive back to Houston from picking up my M3 in SC. Needless to say I didn't take the bait. So, not BS, it does happen... and it doesn't do anything for my ego.
