M3 Production run timetable?
Hi Guys/Gals.
New Here. Can anyone tell me when the production of the current range of M3s is due to stop. Thats the coupe, sedan, and convertible. For example 2007 - 2012? I was in the dealership ready to buy one - had the contract all sorted out, but then got a call for some work in Australia. Now will be in New Zealand for a few years but my permanent home is London. Ideally would want to buy one in the UK. I would also like to buy a brand new M3 so need to know how long I have before production stops. Cheers in advance. HDB |

i'd say last model year will be 2013 but it may be 2012. The E46 M3 ran from MY2001-MY2006. I expect the same 5 year run for the E9x M3's.

I am guessing 2012, though it may be 2011 depending on the global economy.

Cheers Guys.
I thought it might be the same 5 year run, but with the economy and the scrapping of the upgrade of the M3 - production might be cut short. I hope not. What about the convertible - Im unsure when it was released in the states but in the uk it was only released in late 2008. Thats a year after the coupe - so will this have the same 5 year run? For example 2008 - 2013 or will it end the same year as the coupe - meaning that it would only have a 4 year production run? Thanks for your replies - was just wondering if there was any official release from BMW stating the production timetable. Cheers HDB |

This is likely the year of the low point in the global economy. BMW AG has a sunk cost in this car: if they can sell it at marginal revenue > cost they will. Also, the company tends to target longer production runs, so I'd be surprised if they wound up the E92 M3 production run in just 5 yrs (admittedly, say farewell to the V8). But have to agree w/ @punjabiM3: this drastic economy could truncate production. Now why would you be moving to Kiwiland?

Thanks guys for the replies.
It buys me some time while im away from home before i can finally purchase one. Im moving to kiwi land :-) because i work in film special effects - the CGI stuff, and theres a lot of work going there. Its just not feasable for me to buy one there and ship it back - so have to wait until im back in london. My heart sinks everytime an M3 drives past. On a side note - do you guys ever think that BMW might drop the price of the M3? I know it would be harsh for the people who have already purchased one - but it might increase sales. They were willing to half the price of the m3 in the USA when it first came out. Do you think they will do something like that for everywhere else? wishfull thinking maybe! Thanks again HDB. |
