Lifetime tire replacement?

I was at the dealer for my M3, was offered a 'lifetime' tire replacement for $2,259 for all tire replacements due to wear or tire damage as well as wheel damage.

Is this a good deal do you think?

See DJ9's tires from his track thread. In his case it would be a steal! Basically, looking at the tirerack that's about another full set plus another set of rears (I usually go through two sets of rears for every front set on my RWD cars). How many miles do you plan to keep the car? Under my driving style that would make my break even point ~50,000 miles.

not sure how long I will keep the car, but likely 50K or more.

I hate to pre-pay but it sounds like a good deal

There HAS to be some sort of no track clause, otherwise the company underwriting it would go under in a week.

What about slashed tires? Do they make you go through your insurance, or will they cover that too? If they do cover it, is there a limit? Some dishonest people out there, obviously not me, might slash their own tires every 10K miles or so.

I would read the exclusions and limitations really closely. Among other things, they will prolly only replace the tire once it is on the wear bars, which, IMHO, is too low. Also, you will have to align it according to the recommendations in the manual or whatever standard they set, etc. etc. if not, they can and most likely will, deny you.

Also, at $2,300, that is about 3 sets of tires. I guess it depends how long you will keep the car....I assume it is non-transferable to a subsequent owner....also, what will they replace it with? I bet it is an OEM equivalent, which could be junk.

Make sure you reas ALL the fine print first, and really think about it...

I would rather pick and choose my own rubber....and pay for it. Good luck....

I would buy this in a SECOND!!!! Assuming it is OEM spec tires...not some no name crap replacement....if they will give me Michelin PS2's for life...I would jump on that..... That would make my decision to track the M3 like a madman a slam dunk.... A single set of tires is well over $1k.... Everything but gas free for 4 years.....thats sweet!

There has to be a clause about track driving or "excessive" replacement or something....maybe its limited to once per year or once per every other year or something?

The tires are expensive. It's more like 2 sets or less, not 3.

I got this, thinking it would pay for itself with 2-sets of tires. I have to make sure (as you guys say) they will use OEM tires.

It includes free alignment for life, wiper blades, battery etc, but the big thing is the tires.

I really doubt that they will simply keep on handing you new sets of tires as you destroy them on the track or wherever...

I called about the terms I was thinking maybe rather pay as I go. Was told OEM tires are used and any damage (rims or tires) are replaced with no extra charge to me not necessary to go thru my insurance first.

I figure if I get two full sets of tires I will break even

Would you happen to know if the price would be the same for the 19" tires? If so, I would imagine we have a potential group buy opportunity as many folks on this board may be interested. The 19's are 1400+ per set even from tirerack.

This sounds too good to be true. Has to be a catch.
