Is tire dressing bad for ur tires?

I've heard some say although the ingredients in tire dressing protects from UV, it may also infiltrate the sidewall of ur tires thus eventually weakens the strength of it. Is this true? I get free car wash at the dealer & my tires always come out shiny..

I have been told the same. I stay away from any Armorall products. Personally don't like the shinny look. I prefer clean matte black look.

From my experience, the dressing ends up messing up my wheels. Splatter marks. Either there is not enough dressing on the tires or there's too much.


I'm never impressed when it comes to anything on my front tires, from the horrible brake dust.

It depends on the type of dressing and what's in it. Some dressings will penetrate the rubber of the tire and cause dry rot. But really M3 tires don't last long enough anyway to even start the process so shine away. Just stay away from Armour All. That stuff is terrible.

if anyone is interested i think tuf tire shine kit is absolutely amazing. its crazy how long the shine lasts

have a lot experience detailing cars. Rule of thumb is any silicone based tire gel is very bad for the tires. If you are looking for an over the counter product Mothers Reflection tire shine is very good and won't hurt your wheels. If your looking for professional stuff, i personally use pinnacle tire gel it works great very natural and won't turn your wheel brown.

+1 for Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Gel. Good stuff.

I have used armor all for the last 30 yrs and never had tires weakened because of it..pretty silly

I've been on a HD Gel kick lately. Cleans off easily with soap and water, nice natural shine after it dries and no sling

+1..... That is what I use on my DD after a quick wash in the winter time usually....

Many Many cars later, not one issue what so ever.....

As stated above, you need to be wary of dressings with silicone in them but last time i checked none, not even Armor All are silicone-based anymore. They're all water-based and safe for extended use on your tires.

I usually just douse my car in WD-40. Makes the paint super shiny!

I like Auto Finesse's tire dressing. The smell is intoxicating and it makes the tires look great.

Some of the older tire wet stuff was bad because it was easy to use too much, and when you drove away it would sling the remnants onto the car, putting greasy looking stuff all over your freshly cleaned/detailed car. I tend to let the stuff sit for a while now before I drive, but I have two vehicles so I can detail one, let it sit and completely dry, and drive the other
