Yes I know what you mean, I did that as well. The reason I posted is because there would be about 10+ posts about the cost of brakes from forum members rather than me calling 10+ places.

Just FYI:

Crevier quoted me $2700 for Brakes + Rotors + Pads + Labor which is absolutely absurd...
  • $900 for Pads + Installed
  • $1800 for Rotors + Install

Local indy shop that I don't go to, quoted $1700 for everything
  • $600 for Pads + Install
  • $1100 for Rotors + Install

Unfortunately, I don't have the tools for DIY. I'd love to learn, from the videos I've seen it doesn't seem to be much work however I'm still paranoid of me doing it myself for the first time.

have you verified you need rotors? could be just a matter of putting in brake pads and brake fluid flush.

What is the minimum thickness for rotor replacement? Can't seem to find it on the forum

he means its engraved on the hub. the minimum thickness for a rotor is engraved on the hub portion of the rotor itself. might need to clean it off some to see it if dirty but its there. think oem fronts are 28.4 and rears 22.4 e9x, dont quote me havent had one for a while.

*edit for operator error

Why don't people just call their shops to find out prices?!

Dealership > performance shop > DIY - should be common knowledge.

Some guy initially posted in this thread in 2012 that rotors are $450/pair, then another guy says he's never seen them for less than $600. So why would you even take advice from this thread lol.

Everyone knows the main vendors to go to for what parts they require, so go to them and get some authentic replies with real pricing.

There's also a DIY on fluid flush.

The floating calipers are much simplier than the fixed calipers, if you don't mind getting your hands dirty.

I can't find a DIY on the rotor part, likely it's just a simply unbolt/bolt affair.

At a shop, it's basically, a 2-3 hour job? So they'll quote you at their hourly rate X 2-3 hours and you have your answer, plus the cost of materials. If I were you I'd buy the parts from Tischer and bring it into a BWM indie shop. You can shop for the cheapest price on parts, and the indie shop is alot cheaper than dealer.

If you're a prospective M3 buyer, a lot of people were able to get a pad change for free within their free maintenance peroid.
I've replaced my brake system with a BBK and done other brake work on the M3. It's super easy if you understand a little mechanics and handy with tools. So here is a pointer for the rotor discs since you can't find any info on it (I can't either). The rotors (front) will have two small hex retaining bolts that hold the rotor disc in place. They are somewhat soft metal so BE CAREFUL removing them. They are low torque (about 32 in-lbs) If you do not use the correct hex (Allen wrench socket) you'll strip the hex hole with the tool then unless you have an impact tool to help remove it, you'll be screwed. Almost happened to me first time I removed the bolts due to heat seizure. Then you'll have to probably knock the back and front of the rotor with a mallet or ball-peen hammer to brake the rust loose, then the rotor will come off.

Watch some youtube video of removing rotor discs and pads. Their all about the same procedure. Good luck.
