Cracked/Broke BMC Engine filter

Hi guys,

Was servicing the BMC filter that came with the car when I bought it a few months ago. As I was cleaning it I noticed a piece of the urethane base was cracked/broke. Input on whether this is cosmetic or will allow more dirt past the filter would be appreciated.

It's a 2008 e90 m3. From what I've been researching the 2008-2009 filters are charcoal and the later EU won't fit so I'd be stuck having to buy an aftermarket one when I'd prefer oem (but not the charcoal one).

Thanks for your input.

It will allow dirt through, yes. You could try contacting BMC to see if that's warrantied, though I suspect it's not.

Just go for an OEM paper filter and call it a day.

Yeah that's what I'm going to do but I want the better Euro filter from 2010-2103 which will necessitate buying a different airbox. Ugh. I'll email BMC as well. Thanks for your help.

We offer a 1 year warranty from defects on our air filter if you plan on purchasing another aftermarket filter.

What is "better" about it?

It doesn't use charcoal as compared to the 2008-9. There's allot of posts about it. The first two years they had to use charcoal for emissions for some reason and isn't as "good". There's allot of
Info about it. Tom @ eas has good info in this thread.

I'll keep that in mind. The guys at Bullet in Coata Mesa suggested using some wurth fixall epoxy to fix it and call it a day. I'm leaning towards that to start. Especially because it is sadly cost prohibitive to go late model oem filter.
