I've had Nitto NT05, Yokohama AD08, and Michelin Pilot Sport cups. Terrific tires, but they all suck on the road, compared to PS2s.
how do they suck on road? i daily rs3 and now prob nt01.

You do not want to daily NT01. At least anywhere where it rains. It's an adventure driving in the rain after they've seen 1 or 2 track weekends.

RS3's are extreme performance tires, which compromise thread wear, road noise, and comfort. RS3's are apparently phenomenal at the track, and I've used Pilot Sport Cups, which are even better than RS3's especially the new RS3's. But PS2s are benchmark summer tires on the street.

NT01s are like Pilot Sport cups. Can't really daily them, and Cups cost a ton, and wear out fast on the street.

Try the PSS's. Just as quiet as the PS2's and comfortable. Plus better traction and tire life ( newer tire compound).

RS3 are noisy and NT-01's humm like mad.

You can go faster pretty much everywhere, but that will come with more time at Mid-Ohio. It's a very technical track and the whole back section really flows from corner to corner. Better tires would be nice, but you can shave at least 6-7 seconds off on those tires before you need to switch.

If the Z06 drivers were only 9 seconds faster than you than they didn't know what they were doing. I run a high 1:43 in my X1 35i. You were around 1:55 from what I could see. A C7 Z06 well driven should be around 1:35 on r-comps, maybe 1:37-1:38 on street tires.

Would have been lower if I didn't point by the GTR on the front straight, I went into turn 1 at about 9mph slower than usual. This lap is 1:44.02, I don't have video from the high 1:43 laps but I do have GPS data which I posted below.

Here is data from 1:43.86.

You can see that my ideal is a 1:41 if I can stop blowing the back half of the track with too high entry speed. I think that's not bad for an X1 or a M3 that is daily driven.

It's not bad for any vehicle on NT01's (R-comps). When I was running pilot sport cups on my 335I, they cut down my lap times compared to Nitto NT05s by 4-8 seconds depending on the track.

Nice laptime. That was my first time at Mid-Ohio, and I started out above 2mins, and ended up running a 1:53 by the third session. If not for all the incidents, I might have been able to go a little faster with time, but I took a very conservative approach since it was my first time, and I didn't want to become friendly with the walls.

The C7 Z06s were on Pilot super sports, and they ran between 1:45-1:47 I wouldn't go as far as to say that we all didn't know what we were doing. Most of us were just having a fun time, and not really racing. Times even in the advanced group were around 1:43 on R-comps. The one thing I know is that different days, produce different lap times, for a variety of reasons, so if anyone wants to think that a specific lap time ran, would represent the norm for a specific car, then feel free. I've personally seen a 5-10 second differential depending on the time of year alone.

RS3 will be pretty damn noisy for a week or two after a hard day at the track, then it quiets down significantly. But they do ride pretty stiff, much stiffer than Conti DW that I used to run.

.....And probably wear like crap, and chunk along the edges. The list goes on and on for why I'm done with extreme performance, and streetable r comps. I know my lap times will suffer with just max performance summer PS2s, but I'm too old to compromise anymore..

No, they actually wear very nicely if you have the right alignment and right psi (37-39 psi hot seems to work on my car), and I actually get more wear on the DW from just 4 autocross runs than with R-S3 from a full day on the road course.

I can totally understand where are you coming from. But I would highly recommend you getting a dedicated track tire if you still have to put on significant amount of street miles on the car.

rs3 have been my daily for a couple years now. don't really notice anything unusual and don't really drive hard on the street so can't really tell.

i did look up some prices since I've moved up to nt01, i am looking for a daily tire set that is cheap. tirerack had some conti for 175 each for 275 squared. might pick those up for daily.

2 types of PS2s: Run flats, and non-run flats. The non-run flats actually have more carbon silica than PSSs.

Daily as in what? I wouldn't recommend these tires for someone who needs to drive 20-30 miles a day to work every weekday, they will wear through in less than 12k miles unless you drive it like a 70 year old in a Lexus ES...

Surprisingly, the C7 Z06 is not much lighter, at 3525 lbs curb weight. My E92 M3 is nearly fully loaded (MT instead of DCT), and I weigh 3590 lbs with a full tank of gas and everything in the car (windshield wiper fluid topped off, Owner's Manual in the car because it came that way; I'm neurotic about this stuff).

None of this changes the fact that the C7 Z06 is a monster of a car that will outpace the E9X M3 in all performance metrics, but its weight figure has always disappointed me.

Conti Extreme Contact 275/25/18 square....$193 right now.
Conti Extreme Contact DW 265/35/18 square..$185 right now.

Are these both that shitty of a tire?

I actually drive like a grandma in the city because I do plenty of tire shredding at the track. Well, except those sections on the freeway that look like a track...decreasing radius at 25mph posting? HAMMER IT.

I didn't even know pilot sports had a run flat. Talking all non run-flat the PSS is supposed to be a better tire (overall? dry grip? i have no clue).

and I don't know what carbon silica does to a tire. in my experience they just didn't last for 20 minute sessions when beating on them. have you tried rs3?
