I too have tried a lot of tires including the Maxxis. I would opt for a Nitto NT01 without question.

These are my impressions. I drive and E36 fully prepped for TTB in NASA and have won and placed second many times. Not won many times, placed 2nd many times

The Maxxis felt more like a Direzza to me. The Nitto is an easy to drive hard and long lasting tire that approaches Hoosier R6's in speed. It's not as fast as the Hoosier but the tire life you get is incredible and it's just a little slower than a Hoosier.

I think you can buy them in pairs for $100 off/pair ... So x 2 = $200 off right? Came out to $875 for a set of 4 275/35/18s ...

damn i bought them one day early! could have saved a few hundred!

the day i checked it was still 500+ per pair plus shipping.

anyways installed them, looked like they didnt clear my clubsports with existing 5mm spacers even though everyonw said they did here.

drove them around and the humming sounds awesome!

then got worries about clearance a little more and had to test it. i grabbed some teflon tape and wrapped it around the top of the tire and moved it up and down behind the tire. it went through the perch and tire with no effort so i know for sure i have at least <1mm clearance

might move to 12mm spacer (is it 12 or 12.5 for exact fitment on the hub lip of our cars?).

i have -3.5 camber.

edit: sorry for the horrible english. im so sick and tired of typing on these keyboards on smart phones. wtf.

At the risk of giving away some nefarious industrial secrets...

The Maxxis RC-1 and the NT-01 share the same exact compound. There. I said it.

Those of you who have tried both and prefer the NT-01...It's all pscycho-somatic. Your brain is projecting the favoritism. Because they're identical compounds, when you remove all the grooves except for two that runs circumferentially, the RC-1 has more traction surface area and less tread squirm when new. When you wear them, or run them shaved, then the difference isn't as dramatic.

But instrumentation says the RC-1 is about 2 seconds per lap faster on a track like Buttonwillow (CW-13. About 1:5x, BMW CCA H-Prepared laps) than NT-01 on their prime laps. The data given does not show data comparing worn tires (since the data is from a race team that ran same tires, both on the same size rim). Keep in mind the data is from two sets of races about 8 months apart...

They're not Hoosiers fast or true slicks fast. But they're faster than NT-01s with nearly the identical wear characteristics.

cool.

i test fit the rc1 and 275s are wide as hell. just sitting on my spring perch (kw cs issues).

on nt01i tested to see if they were touching by basically moving a string up and down behind the tire. it moved freely so i have minimum clearance for a fact at least lol.

They (275) fit just fine up front on my MZ4 Coupe with 3 degrees of negative camber.

I don't quite know what to do with them, I bought 2 sets of scrubs from the team that raced them, thinking they'll last me a couple of seasons. 2 years later the FIRST set is looking like they'll last me another 2 years before I need to ditch them.

I'd like to know as well. I think the most I ever got out of a set was 5 weekends on NT01's. My tire guy told me that I had come 15 times in the last 2 years to get tires mounted. Not all of these were new sets, some were flips to squeeze a bit more life out of a set.

That sounds about right. I have 3 sets mounted now so switching off so what I had lasted this season. But I've only made it 9 days.

That's crazy talk! Those tires have to be junk and you just don't care to go fast anymore!

i have negative 3.5 degrees camber. its just the clubsports have the perch set low, right against the tire and i dont feel like getting speings just for tires but it looks like ill have to.

nt01 with 5mm spacer is pretty close. going to the track tonight and ill see if someone has a 12mm spare spacer.

Not sure I buy this. How is it that rc1 goes off and nt01s come on.

Doesn't make sense to me either nor does it match my experience.

For that matter, I believe that Nitto and Toyo share the same compound since they are the same company (IIRC). Maxxis and Nitto are different companies and most likely would not share the EXACT compound.

That being said, I agree that there is a certain psychological component to tires.
