M3 S65 Motor Mounts
Sup yall,
I feel a lot of play in the movement of the engine when the car is driven 'hard' wondering if any of you guys have replaced the motor mounts or if there is a write up.....didn't see any write ups, I didn't do a full search either just thought it would be easier to ask. Also do you recommend going with a more heavy duty mount like https://store.vacmotorsports.com/vac...s65-p2998.aspx Thanks

No way solid mounts will be tolerable on a street car. I've ridden in a vehicle equipped with Group N grade rubber mounts and it yielded no more NVH than the stock mounts.

Whats NVH and what car were the Group N mounts on? I've only ridden in a STI and they seemed much better in reliability and withstood life on the track and stree longer.

I hear the solid engine mounts are quite unbearable. I went with OEM. Vibratechnic is another good one, half poly half rubber. Driven a car with one and it is tolerable.

Solid mounts are crazy. It's going to rattle the car apart, especially during cold start when the engine is already rather rough.
I don't have experience with solid mounts in the M3, but when I had my two Audis I read a lot of horror stories about them...guys would install them, drive on them for a week, hate them, and reinstall the stock ones.

Don't install solid motor mounts. I did and it transmitted drone into the cabin while making everything rattle. Plus the subframe is most likely going to need to be reinforced so it doesn't rip apart from the engine trying to torque itself loose.
I went with the AKG motor mounts and not a single issue so far. http://www.akgmotorsport.com/catalog/catalog.php |

You will have to reinforce the front carrier if you option for solid engine mounts. If you do solid engine mounts, you will also need solid transmission mounts, otherwise you will break the transmission casing.
The vibration from solid mounts is pretty bad, so if it sees life on the street at all, I suggest you steer away from this. Group-N mounts are amazing. Most E9x M3's start tearing there engine mounts after 35-40k miles.

+1 on Group-N mounts. They do have more NVH than stock but for me its the good NVH, it feels solid and taut.

+2 on those mounts. Initially after install they seem like they might be too firm but after a couple thousand miles soften up a bit and are just perfect. Makes the shifting of DCT smoother too.

I have Vibratechnic mounts on my street car, still get some nice engine feedback through steering wheel etc but very easy to live with. Just adds a nice extra bit of rawness to the car.

Allows more deflection under track loads, which moves not just your engine but your transmission too (shifting issues can arise, but it's rare). The group N mounts (or the Bimmerworld/Rogue aftermarket ones) are more resistant to the deflection.

I drive my car on the street 99.99% of the time. Tried Rogue but got some low rpm vibration. Replaced with new stock mounts.

FWIW, I have the Rogue mounts on my E46M3 but not on the E90M3. The E90M3 sees far fewer track days.
