So how come M3 doesn't come with run flat tire?

I hear almost all BMW comes with run flat tire now, why not the M3? I'm not tire expert at all, in fact a complete noob so if anyone can explain that would be great! Due to performance requirement?

The performance. They completely suck compared to a summer performance tire.
Handling and speed totally goes out the window with an RFT.
The feel is numb and dead, not the best thing out there by far

That's what I guessed too, but the 335 comes with it doesn't it? I test drove one, 335 seemed decent. No M3 of course...

Regular tires are better, but RFTs would have been a compromise I'd have gladly accepted. They should at least offer them as an option IMO.

Your thread reminded me I need to buy all the parts needed for a spare for my upcoming November trip. Take care.

Which is why Z06s and ZR1s come equipped with run flat tires.

Run flats have come a long way in a few years.

Are you going GregW's spare tire solution route?

I'm going to get a tire repair kit (reamer/plug tools) as well. My wife has an uncanny way of finding nails and screws with our SUV (3 in 3 months)--so it will go in whatever car we take on longer trips. I hate the idea of being in the middle of nowhere with limited options....

Can't speak to the 2009s or 2010s...but the stock tires on the 2008 18s are not runflats...at least mine aren't.

i had rft's on my 335 and it's the worst idea ever, they rode very rough and when you have to buy new ones they're expensive. Image the 19"s on the M3 in runflat? They already cost abo $400/tire. add runflat and they'll be like $550/tire. thats just silly. keep a plug kit in the back with compressor or buy a small spare.

RFTs have come a long way, I would bet that the next generation M3 will have them.

The RFTs on the GTR are pretty incredible. If you stay too close behind a GTR on the track or a mountain road, you get a nice gravel shower from its sticky tires.

My 2009 stock 18s are not RFTs (and I'm thankful after my negative experience with them on my 335i)

Cause they suck?

Took them off my 335, took them off the X5 and happy that they didn't come on the M3.

They may be getting better but my experience with them has been all bad, they are overly expensive, generally unavailable in small centers, require special pry bars to remove (initially the only place that could deal with them was the dealer), are heavy, harsh riding, flat spot badly overnight in the garage and are noisy as hell.

Of course its been a year since I had any so maybe they are better now...

According to Mike Harley (the author of the article on Autoblog) the 3rd gerneration Bridgestone RFTs are not yer available.

Glad I don't live where you live.

The M mobility kit does just fine. Fixes a tire faster than waiting for BMW Assist.
