Oil and Coolant Temp

For those of you with coolant temp gauges would you mind sharing what your average temps are on the highway during summer? Also could you share what your oil temp is at highway speeds in the heat?

Hi Doc, been watching this over the last days using Carly, although the parameter names are a bit odd I'm pretty sure coolant and oil is being measured.
Normal driving at some speed it stays a tad below mid i.e. 97-99gC, maybe 101-102 when idling in traffic. It does increase with heavy throttle to a needle or two above mid, ~104-108gC.
Coolant seems to stick to around 85gC but will monitor this more closely.

The reason I started to check is that the temp seems to have increased slightly at spirited driving. Nothing I worry about but want to understand if its due to the weather finally picking up. 10W60 oil, 3k miles.

I have a VR620, but the coolant temp during the summer is anywhere from 185-205 F on really hot days in CT (85-95F). Hope that helps.

Thanks for the responses. Do any of you notice that your cars are hotter on the freeway than they are on slower roads?

Hotter on the freeway? Shouldn't make much difference unless your freeway speeds are like 120mph+ for extended periods. There's tons of airflow at that speed for the radiators, and the car is water cooled anyway so the oil temps shouldn't change much regardless of whether you're idling in 100 degree temps or cruising in 45 degree autumn mornings.

If you are seeing large temperature fluctuations, you may have some obstructions in the cooling system (just one example).

I actually see that they are cooler on the freeway due to the airflow. The one exception is that I see a marginal, but noticeable, increase in temperature when I am behind a larger vehicle. I'm assuming because the airflow into the bay is hindered.
