Sourcing slicks/scrubs/pull-off's
Done some searching over the last 2-3 days on here and can't seem to find much information on who/where to source scrubs/slicks?
I have a resource now but was curious if any of you have a reputable place that you get your scrubbed slicks or other used R-compounds from? Currently running NT01s which I like. Unfortunately, NT01s really aren't used in race series so finding pull-offs is much more difficult. I was thinking of stepping up to Hoosiers (R7/A7?) or Cont.'s since they are readily available, but not sure if that really makes sense from a longevity standpoint since they tend to only last 1-2 track wknds. PM me or post if you're willing to share your beloved scrubs supplier! |

Putting in race scrubs is a false economy. You really are not sure what you will get. Better to buy a cheaper new tire than a takeoff. You will get people that swear by scrubs. If you go that route, assume you will get some duds every once In awhile.

I sourced Conti slicks from GT Racing tires at http://gttrackdays.com/. Overall great experience and pricing at less than half what I pay for NT-01s. I ran them this weekend, and they should be good for at least another 2-4 days - not much worse wear than NT-01s.

Not knowing what I'll get and/or having a reliable source is my main concern. I would def imagine there would be some duds but obviously want to minimize that risk with a solid resource. Unfortunately, R-comp tires don't come cheap and don't last that long, so spending $1000+ per set every couple track wknds isn't the most economical route for me at this point in life :-/

Check ebaymotors for cheap Michelin Pilot Sport Cup take offs. Several owners of sport cars that come stock with them realize what they have, and dump them as fast as they can, because they are done after less than 5K street miles. I went that route, and for less tha $800 got 8 tires. 2 fronts were duds, but the other four kicked serous but for 3K street miles, and 2 track events.
