Exclamation Dead Rear- Tires ?!?

Haven't driven the car for a long time and now that I have time; this ..
I've seen worse on friends cars after a track day.
11,000 miles of driving hard I guess this is what happens right?

PS2s are on backorder at every possible store.

I made an order from Costco because they are the best local installer and have the best price.
They wont get the tires till next Thursday & I wont have time to install them till the weekend.

Driving my daily-driver till I get the tires changed.
It's too hard to not drive the M, I really want to drive the beast but know I shouldn't.
This is the ultimate test of self control.

Fellow M drivers be sure to check your tires constantly before and after you drive.

Thoughts-

.. Yes I realize it's pretty bad

Wait until rain or icy conditions and go for it. Post pics of the hilarity that ensues.

Lucky you checked although the last few times you drove it (be it a long time ago) perhaps it was feeling a bit 'different'? You wouldn't want a blow out whilst driving!

Its surprising how often this happens and the driver doesnt even know. Good job on paying attention to your M3.

My brother had an e46 and he wore through both sets of warning threads and he hit a sprinkler puddle going 40 and completely lost his backend before he changed them.

This would happen on my S65 Benz unless you got on your hands and knee's you couldnt see the insides of the rears and it always had a camber issue......... Just like YOU have, get things aligned when you stick on the new rubber.

Talking Wow

Talk about riding on borrowed time those tires time been up. This reminds me of one of my friends M3 tires. I was nice enough to let him borrow my set of OEM 19inch wheels and tires sitting in my garage until his OEM 18inch wheel tires came in the mail. Well unlike you he still got to drive his M3 . Hang in there you will be on the road again before you know it.

You need to give up that California dreamin' for awhile and drive back in the GTA. Absolute crappy weather this winter and the roads have been snow covered and cold enough to prevent any of that tire wear nonsense.

But.....I'd rather have your weather & tire bills over this stuff !!

Did you try looking orhaving a tire shop look for 275/40-18's? That's what I did, molded at 9/32" instead of 8/32", a little cheaper, similar load rating, etc. They fit great on the stock wheels, and the car puts the power down a little better now. I'm still using the 245/40-18 original fronts and there have been no ill effects to the handling, still has the same balance, DSC isn't freaked out, etc. Might be a tad more understeery but it's probably mostly due to the very old (early '08) fronts vs. the very new mid-'10 build dates on the new rears. Just an idea.

the M3 is set up to have negative camber out of the box... judging by how worn the outside of the tire is already, it just looks like it's past due for some new rears

unless, of course, the other rear tire doesn't look that bad...

You started another thread a little while ago asking about the uneven wear on your tires. Looks like you let it ride instead of worrying about it at that point!!

+1 - he also posted another thread a little while ago saying he spun out at a recent track day. I hope he would have at least inspected his tires before running on the track.
