Guess what, I didn't know how to drive a manual when I got my car either, but I knew I wanted one. I got it on a friday and had until monday to learn to drive to school. I put 250 miles on it in 2 days, never going more than 3 miles from my house. All it takes is practice.

Simple solution to your problem: force yourself to learn how to drive a stick and you won't regret it.

Of course if you are going to learn how to drive a stick it shouldn't be on a new BMW. Find an old Japanese car with a soft clutch and no worries about what will happen to that clutch when you are learning.

You'll be embarrased the first few times on street at the stop signs/red lights in the first gear, no problem for the 2nd, 3rd and so on after rolling...
I learnt from my dad's beatup 82 hatch back Civic at night around my neigborhood for a few nights. It was fun when nobody saw me and I could do whatever I wanted.
But now I can't buy MT because my girl cannot drive mt and also because of the damn traffic in Bay Area.

go to enterprise and rent a stick POS like a mini cooper. it'll cost you 50 dollars for one day. i can literally teach you online in about 10 minutes. in no time you'll be wrecking that tranny so you won't have to on your new M3. it'll be the best 50 you ever spent.

Thats a pretty good plan, id def. do that if i wanted to learn how to drive stick. Also get some time and experience on hills and inclines, those are a PITA.

Thanks for the replies. Oh yea if I rented that mini cooper and wear out the clutch doesn't that mean I have to pay for it? So what junk car should I buy to learn to drive a stick? Is it really true I can learn by myself?

looks like you don't come around too often... so you haven't even begun to scratch the surface of worthless threads on this board. for example, the "please tell me how to equip my car" thread, or the ever-so-popular "if you were me, which car would you get?" thread.

enjoy them in all their grandeur.

Ok, had a chat with my brother and sisters and seem that they want me to get an Automatic transmission, in the near future that is. So they can drive it too. So I'll be getting a 335i coupe or sedan with AT. Thanks alot people for sharing your thoughts.

Learn how to drive stick, it's much more satisfying than an auto.

Shit and I learned how to drive stick this year (mid march).

I didn't learn in a beater, I learned in a new '07 STi that i bought. I didn't break anything.

Hey I dont think you want it so bad to learn how to drive stick because if you wanted so much it would take you at the most 3 laps around a empty mall in the night or a empty parking lot, but I don't believe that you want it so much, so I would suggest you to go on youtube and see all the exciments people get from a manual car than you might realy want it so you can learn very easy and quickly. And don't get me negative I'm just trying to help you

I just consulted the Ms. Cleo physic hotline - Ms Cleo thinks you should get the manual.

Yeah, I feel like I'm in Romper Room here (obviously before anyone's time - yes even mine... Captain Kangaroo, OTOH, well )

Saying you can't drive a stick is like saying you don't know how to tie a shoe. Then again, do they still put laces on shoes?

Or should I stick with a 335i coupe with auto tranny? let me know if bmw is planning to put the SMG back in the m3, Thanks.
what do you mean you cannot drive a stick? you mean you dont know, or havent driven one yet, or you really cannot as in due to physical constraint, etc?

anyway, you could learn it in no time. i highly recommend stick over any other *fake* option like DSG or SMG or whatevers...

Sorry I wasn't clear. I don't know how to drive a stick, not that I physically can't.

What's the difference if you don't even want to learn?

Yup no arguments there...

Hmmm" find an old japanese car " I would think finding an old german car would be more fitting dont you think? Heck just learn at the dealer... TestDrive!!

When I was learning to drive my BF took all of 10 mins to teach me. Simple as spit.
