The "Save" thread
If you had a slide, spin, or something else ridiculous at the track happen to you, saved it, AND got it on video...post it here. Maybe we can all learn something. But my experience has been that the gopro always shuts off right before I do my Ken Block impersonation.
From this past weekend. And old compilation video.

Here's one from 2 weeks ago... I'm not sure I would catch it every time! I was reminded to go steering wheel straight over the hill.
And here is one that I didn't save, you can skip to around 1:45 for the action... got too close to the berm where there is a dip and the car bounced off and I lost traction in the rear. All that at about 90MPH!!! |

Fun thread idea.
My first time at Infineon. I had PS Cup tires and when the back comes out, it comes out fast! At Thunderhill trying to keep my distance from a really fast Exige S on slicks (no chance!): A couple oversteer moments at Laguna Seca with my rear sway set stiffer than my fronts. Car would oversteer on almost every corner. It was honestly quite fun.

Bigjae, your oversteer moments look like intentional and almost perfect drifts. :P

Radiantm3- nice videos, at Laguna your car was crazy loose for sure! Smooth throttle inputs will always help things. So will correct bar settings! Haha nice driving

Nice videos! Another one from the car behind me. Carrying a little too much speed into the apex, missed it by a tire width.

LMAO!...THAT'S NOT A SAVE! Still, some fun video(s)!

You can zip to about 1:20...I start having to correct a bunch then a couple of big power slides on coolant at around 110mph. The GT3 behind me was not so lucky with a couple 360's, nor the car in the wall on the left.
This was from a Chumpcar race...could have been ugly would have totally been my fault based on technicality. Watch the car in my mirrors in the following braking zone. This was an autox about 4.5 years ago. Head to 1:50, I learned two things...don't autox with gloves on and don't move your hands around the wheel because you lose the ability to countersteer fast and with power. Notice how close the power pole was....if I had one more tank slapper it would be pole-city. I'll keep trying to remember others.

What a fun thread
I'm curious, what software/cameras/ etc r u all running to get things like a track map, steering, throttle, brake, etc to interface with the video?

Here's an off I had a big willow: And an older clip in my E46 where a guy shuts the door on me as I'm going for the pass. Doesn't look like much but we were going fast and it was definitely sketchy. I was ready to go off and take that cone to avoid collision. |

Great thread idea. My submission bends the "save" rule a bit: I didn't save the car from spinning, but I did manage to save it from hitting the tire wall.
From NJMP Lightning last summer. I early-apexed an over-the-hill right-hander, sending me a bit wide on track-out. My left front tire clipped the edge of the track curbing where it steps up, unsettling the car and shooting me to the right toward the inside wall. I luckily avoided the tires before spinning back onto the track. Silliness is at 1:05.

Nice thread.
Careful there at T6. A track buddy in E92 M3 had one of his worst off right there.

When the car starts rotating, my mind set is simply to keep the front wheels in the direction that I want to go and balancing the car with throttle. I only touch the steering wheel to recollect the car. You are only using throttle and maybe brake to steer and control the car so smooth throttle and brake inputs are a must. I think a lot of people try holding onto the wheel and turn it themselves. So the car rotates faster than they can turn the wheel. Then the 4 wheels grip but now the front tires are pointed off track which is now where they will go. If you look at the front tires in my compilation video...they are always pointed in my intended direction of travel. By balance, I think of a container of water...which way is the water sloshing, where do I need that water to go, what do I need to do to make it go there, and I know I need to be smooth so I don't slosh the water out of the other side...a smooth transition from front to rear or left to right or one corner to another. As I've told many but none have followed...drifting will QUICKLY give you strong car control skills. I did one drift practice and that was a tremendous learning tool. Best $50 I've spent so far. I thought green pastures were in my future for sure but I just held it. I was thinking about the spin I had there, in the rain, about a month ago. MSR Houston is getting to be treacherous in the rain, especially carousel (the turn in the vid) which is getting extra bad.
