2010 or 2011 Dilemma. Best of Both?

Seems to me the ideal scenario is to be able to order before January 4th to get the Holiday Credit but get March production for the 2011 (or 2010.5) LIS. But you would have to lock in and figure the purchase / lease numbers based on the 2010 model which might not be smart (probably won't have 2011 #'s in the next month). I'm guessing the residual value will be a few points higher on the LIS and eventual resale much better.

Is there any way to place the order before Jan 4th, get the Credit, extend the production to March and STILL be able to take advantage of potentially better residuals?

That and you must BUY the car by Jan 4th. If you order before Jan 4th and don't take posession of it than the $1500 Holiday credit will be moot. However once the '11s are out '10s will probably have rates in the 2.9% range.

Spencer, regarding the Holiday Credit, here's what my dealer told me in writing - quoted directly from their email:

"For the holiday credit, you can still apply it to an ordered car but the application process must be completed before the end date. That means BMW Financial Services has to have approved you prior to Jan. 4. Here's what I've recommended in the past - come in no later than one week before the end date, order the car, complete the application so we can submit it to BMWFS. Usually, it takes a day or two to get approved, sometimes more if they request certain documentation (like W-2). The car just has to appear as "SOLD" with a customer name attached on the dealer pipeline before the promotion ends."

Are you guys thinking this isn't the case?

It's lockable but I think it only applies to MY2010 cars. I really doubt the Holiday Credit applies to something that won't even be built for 60 days (the 2011s) and is the new model year.

From what I understand, you won't even be able to get a build date for February if you order in early January and all March builds will be the LCI. So if they take an order in early Jan you can lock the credit and I'm not sure how they will build a 2010 at that point.

According to my dealer there will be no M3's made in February......... all cars after January production will be March builds. I'd assume they are doing a short shutdown to re-tool for the LCI 2011 Cars.

That is what my dealer is also telling me as I am ordering a 2011 335Cab for my wife as her lease is up in April on her present 335.I am on the fence about replacing my M with a 2011 and that decision hinges on what is actually going to be in the competion package.(brakes?)
