2011 E92 M3 - Thoughts on Pricing

Hello, I just wanted to get some thoughts on the pricing of this car as it seems to be a relatively good deal. The only key feature it seems to be missing is EDC which is not a deal breaker for me. I don’t know anything about the dealer but it’s close enough for me to go see in person if nothing seems fishy.

Thanks!

If EDC is not a deal breaker for you, with only 4K miles this looks like a good price.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to try checking it out this week. I'm actually a huge fan of the red on 2-tone black/red.

^ This is what I was kind of worried about. Other comparable M3s in the area are priced at $10k+ more. Could it be that red on red with a 6MT is less desirable and therefore priced lower? Less overhead with a small dealer perhaps? Anyway, I have no problem walking away if too good to be true.

In my experience, standard-option color combos rarely impact listed price, one way or the other.

Maybe it has lots of bird poop etched in the paint? Why are there no interior shots, except a weird one of the interior roof?

Definitely something to check out in person.

Actually there are several interior shots - just need to click on view additional photos. Either way, I still want to see it in person.

Ah, I see now. Hopefully you can indeed get a good deal. If so, replace that wood trim ASAP!

If it sounds too good to be true... There is a reason it is listed for $10K less than comparable M3s so make sure you bring a paint meter, put it on a rack to check the frame and also look for water damage (flood vehicle).

Yeah. Agree 100%. Car is priced 10,000 low, possibly more.

Seems like the question of "is this price too good to be true" has been coming up a lot lately...

Is that a Texas sticker on the drivers lower side of the windshield - 9th picture from the top? Not that Texas cars are bad.
I would definitely get the CARFAX and you may want to check to see if the car was lemoned. You also may want to have a pre purchase inspection done by a dealer to ensure, among other things, that it remains under BMW warranty.
Check to see if it has the original tires, Michelin, Pirelli, Continental (?).

No heated seats = deal breaker for me.

Update: I emailed the dealer to ask if they could send me the Carfax report if available and whether there had been any damage repair or paint work.

They sent me the report which shows a Salvage title and Water damage. The dealer noted that there was no paint work on the car, but the engine was hydrolocked and replaced with a new one that had 350 miles; the car comes with the remainder of factory warranty through Autohaus (not sure if this means it is void through BMW dealers).

Water damage is certainly a scary thing since other problems that may not be visible now could surface down the road. Would you run for the hills or throw out a low ball offer and accept the risk?

I would steer clear of this one unless you have a very high tolerance for risk. I don't know anything about Autohaus, but you would need to be certain it is a legit company capable of standing behind the warranty, and that what is being covered is exactly what would be covered under the original factory warranty. Also, if you are concerned with resale, any potential buyer is going to have all of the same concerns you do so it may be difficult to sell in the event you decide to do so. Lastly, as you pointed out, there may be unforeseen problems that may crop up later that would not necessarily be apparent now. GL.

Run for the hills, unless they want to knock another $10K off. If it was a Texas car, it may have got caught in the flooding we had several months ago.

^ and ^^ - Thanks, yeah I think I will pass on this one just to avoid losing piece of mind. There are too many what ifs to worry about. Although another $10k off would make it tempting even still. It's such a beautiful car otherwise.

I love all the 'sounds like a good deal' comments. If that car was legit it would be an absolute, unmitigated, fly yourself across the country to get it, screaming steal of a deal. Unfortunately, if a car is priced $14k under retail you can be pretty sure theres something wrong with it. Dealers are rarely that stupid.

Look at the rear seats and door panels...

see how the leather is puckered? I'm glad you confirmed it has water damage because that was my first suspicion, looks like it came from a lake.

Good luck in the search.

Good catch on the puckered leather, I didn't even notice until you pointed it out. And likely a non-owner wouldn't pick up on it, from the dealer pictures.

As mentioned earlier, dealers are not dumb. They got bills to pay too, so they don't just knock of $10K from a perfectly good car out of the spirit of their hearts
