iDrive 08 vs 09

I should be able to pick up my new 08 M3 tomorrow and I know they redesigned iDrive for 09 so I was curious what all was different in it for 09 and IF and HOW is it better than the 08 and older one. (though this might just make me jealous knowing the answer to this)

anything in this world is an improvement over 08's iDrive.

one thing that changed that i would really appreciate is that you're not bound to the stupid unrealistic insufficient search categories

keep the info, I want to know more about it. Even if I don't have it I have a friend who wants to know cause he is looking at an 09 Z4.

But here's a dumb question from me. . . .

is there any way to upgrade, change, flash, whatever an 08 iDrive to the new iDrive? I'm guessing the answer is NO or very expensive, but you can't blame a guy for trying though.
