Counter Strike Source: Beta?

Why is valve releasing a beta for a game that has been out for a while? Makes no sense to me. I saw it at a friends house and nothing looks new or looks like anything has been changed. Anyone know whats this all about?

I know they did a big update where you now have achievements for the game. I used to play quite a bit in the days of 1.6, but ppl online are way too good nowadays. I wish they would do a newer version of the game with better graphics and more maps. Oh well I suppose that what used to be counterstrike is now call of duty (which I like as well).

the game is already old news to me. theres so many stupid new add-ons and custom stuff that people do in servers, that you just cant find a fresh, simple server. i've been playing since 2001 and the game has changed A LOT since.

My daily regiment was CS and EQ from 1999-2003. Even was on a CAL-O team that later made it into CAL-i
