window tint film question

over the past 10-12 years did they change how window tint is made ?

cause about 10-11 years ago my grandpa got a 03 330ci convt and got it tinted at a shop by my house with 20% 3m tint.

Even then I noticed that it seemed dark seeing out at night... since then i have had every film brand/type/% imaginable on various cars and now I am driving his 330ci until my M comes and the film seems extremely dark at night, but during the day looks like 20% and is in fact 20% film.

my boy got his truck tinted same shop 3m 20% film and I sat in it tonight back to back and the glass is much darker seeing out on the bmw than on the truck.

did they change how film is manufactured to make it easier to see out of over the past 10 years??

Ive had limo tint on a few cars and to be honest at night in dark areas it feels like thats whats on the 330ci but it is in fact 20% 3m film.

Who knows. Call 3M and ask them? However, the same tint on different cars will always look different. The size of the windows, shape of the windows, type of glass in the car (some glass is pre-tinted, blueish, or just different) and interior color will always play a part. So I don't think you're going to get an answer out of this really.
