SIRIUS Satellite Radio

So i got my car a few months ago and it did not come with Sat Radio... i got a quote from the dealer to install and i was shocked.

Has anyone installed the OEM satellite radio in thier car? I have an 2009 E90 M3. i read the guide wanted to hear what other car owners had to say about the install.

Thanks

BMW announced some time ago that it no longer will be supplying the Sirius tuner for retrofit. So whatever is left in stock at USA dealers is what's left and then no more new tuners.

Install is very easy as the pre-wiring is there. Coding is required.

You can find a unit on ebay or on here. If you are pre wired for it then it is a breeze and all you need is to switch some wires and have it coded. If you do not have the wiring, it will be a little more difficult but there is a install guide.

My guess is that 1) separate tuner retrofits simply tanked due to absurd dealer and part prices ($700+ for parts and install, really?) 2) the Sirius tuner is being integrated into the OEM HU/iDrive since MY2010.

If the tuner is integrated into the iDrive, and you do not order the $350 Sat Radio feature, how would one go about retrofitting?

I have no interest now in Sat radio (used to have it pre-merger, I know the pros/cons), but if for some reason I change my mind or someone else wants this feature in the future, how would you go about activating it?

For the iDrive you buy an enabling code (FSC) for about $375 plus loading labor. For the OEM HU you replace the whole unit with a new one with the built in tuner for about $1000, and only if the car is pre-equipped with MOST.
