This is great and something we don't have the option for here in the USA. I think this also plays a big role in your support for the use of TWS. When you have the comfort of knowing that your car is under warranty indefinitely then there is much less incentive to switch from the factory recommended oil as you know BMW will cover an engine replacement if necessary.

However for those of us who are out of warranty or will be one day, making the engine last as long as possible is a top priority (hence people exploring oil options which ma be better than TWS).

So you really have no skin in the game since you are going to sell your car before it goes out of warranty. For you, staying with TWS is the way to go, but I'm not sure if your situation has any merit for those with high mileage cars out of a warranty that are looking to improve the longevity of their motors.

I am anxious to send my next sample from my 08 which just crossed the 82,000 MLS recently.
I still expect to see high Lead conc. but as soon as the Copper conc. will start ramping up.... Will be time to get the rod bearings changed!

Just got back my first report. No track use - occasional spirited driving!

2010 E92 - 42,000km. I usually stay around 5500-8000 km between changes.

Looks pretty good except for viscosity. Both seem relatively low. Any reason for that? This was a cold winter in the great white north if that has any impact.

I sent the following to my advisor after the most recent oil change...................

I am looking at the invoice from my oil change and it indicates BMW Motor Oil SAE 1

Is that the high performance BMW / Castrol 10W60 TWS Synthetic Oil - required and recommended in the manual?

I have been assuming all along the correct oil is being used.

Hopefully it is a listing error.

He indicated the correct oil was used and the listing on the invoice was incorrect.

I did notice the following:

Molybdenum seemed high
Titanium seemed high (additive in this type of oil?)
Calcium and Magnesium seemed high

Changed the oil a few weeks ago. Decided to go Mobil 1 0W-40 this time around. I went ahead a got a blackstone analysis on the outgoing TWS 10W-60 even though I only had 1500 miles on the oil. Not sure how much can be learned from the short run on the oil but there were quite a few spirited drives. Take it for what it is worth.

There's universal averages on all the same report. Obviously you want to be around there or less.

No, with only 1500 miles, since that is much less than a typical change interval, and since wear metals are all being more or less continuously added to the oil, he should be substantially less than universal averages. And, despite the odd conclusions from Blackstone, aluminum, iron and copper all look significantly elevated to me...

My first oil analysis
This was after the most brutal winter that I can remember with daily cold starts, often with temps below -20 C.
I switched to Mobil 1 0w40 in the autumn and ran close to 9K kms with adding half a litre between changes.
Things looking good for an early '08 with 90K Kms (approx 56K miles).

Good report! Did you have any reports on the TWS from before?

No, unfortunately.
I'm going to keep using 0w40 over the summer and will repeat the analysis to monitor any trends.

The most recent sample is TWS. Previous was Edge Pro, and my first two samples on this car were both TWS. My car is a 3/08 build.

Currently running Mobil 1 0w40, I will report back when I have a sample.

I actually agree with you and was interpreting the results in the same way. I should be seeing about 20% of the universal averages, correct?

Whatever (your mileage/average change mileage)*100 is...

Size: 290.9 KBReport from my track oil from last summer. Oil was a blend of Redline 10W60 (8 qts) and 5W40 (1 qt). As you can see, the interval is fairly short (4500 km), which keeps wear metals fairly low. My winter oil was M1 0W40, but upon changing it, I found that I only put 2000 kms on it, so I chose not to analyze.

I just changed to Redline 5W50 prior to receiving these results - It is a tad lighter than the 10w60 blend, but it should handle the track season without issue.

Here is my report.

My car is a June 2011 build e92 M3.

The oil had two track days and a 1400 mile road trip (5000 miles total)

Although I am from Michigan, my car was in Florida for the past year and had multiple long breaks between startups.

My warm up is revs below 3K rpm until I see 200 F oil temp.
