launch control question

I had an E46 M3 SMG and like it so much that i bought a DCT M3. I was just playing around in the car today pressing buttons etc.. and decided i wanted to see the Checkered flag on, just for fun. I put the car in S-6, pressed the m button, push the lever forward and kept it there and nothing happened. My car has like 180 miles. Am Im doing something wrong or the transmission won't do it before some more miles?

launch control will enable itself only after about 1.200 miles - no intervention, programming needed by your BMW Service...

Right after my 1200 mile service , it wasnt avaliable. I think I was somewhere in the 1200-1250, but by the time I got home 1300 miles total, it was avaliable.

Roger that. Mine became available at about 1,250 miles. I finally used it when I had about 1,600 or so. I have only used it once, although I have lit up the flag about 5 times, just to check it out.

Also, I noticed that if you merely light up the flag, but do NOT use LC, it is still not available for a few miles. lol. Guess they went the dumb route on the LC lock-out. Trigger light, LC not available again after 3 miles or so....whatever.

Yeah, and you also shouldnt be able to get into S6 until after the break-in... you must have been in S-5

Nope. S6 is available from day 1. You just have to deactivate DSC first, then it becomes available. Although S6 was there and useable in my car, I could not access LC until about 1,250 miles. FYI
