Seatbelt valet

It's not a huge plus for me, but doesn't bother me. If it breaks, I'll get it fixed. Weight can't be more than a pound a side.

It happens to me all the time in other vehicles. I even reach over with my right hand and there is nothing to be handed to me.

Thing is near useless. Mine misses the seat belt entirely half the time and I wind up elbowing the arm to get to the seat belt. Forget having it fixed under warranty. I'm about to rip it out myself and leave it like that.

Haha you know what would be funny? If it broke *while passing the seatbelt to you. (in 'arm-stretched' position.) This would make everyone have to dodge it in ordder to get into the back seat

I don't believe this is the first BMW with it. For some reason, I recall this stupid little device in the old 8 series. I would like to personally fly to Munich and bonk the engineer over the head who thought including the motorized seatbelt arm in the coupe was a good idea. These dumb things are bound to fail and will be thorns in owners sides for eternity.

Scares me, what happens when you are out of warranty, a small part like that could cost an arm and a leg

Better than the old motorized belts that zoomed over the top of the door when you closed it!

Don't get me wrong, I love having it when it works. I'm not sure how many of you owned E46 coupes, but the seat belt in them seemed like it was 10' from the seat and was a pain to grab every time. I've gotten back in the habit of turning around and grabbing the belt. I'll probably wait to have it replaced when I go in to have the brakes bled next month.

Would be nice if we could disable it in iDrive though...e.g. after warranty period expires! Also trained myself to release the seat belt very gently so as not to scratch the crap out of the silver part of the arm.

My passenger seat belt arm also died on me today! I managed to push it back in and it worked again the next time I switched the car on....but it won't go back in anymore!! Will have to stop by the dealer....

Yes and yes . Just pull fuse #30; all it does is deactivate the arms, like if they had never been there . You're welcome .

Mine were working just fine at only 4K miles, but 9 out of 10 times the stupid things pulled out, I (or my wife) were already buckled up. And don't want to ever deal having to replace them, hence my decision to look for a 'cure'. And below is the fuse diagram in case somebody doesn't have it (blacked out locations are empty in my car). Hope this helps folks.

+10000000. I had two e92s (one suffered the HPFP failure so they go me a brand new one) and only the first one had issues and that is because an ignorant passenger (he's my boy so I can call him that) got rough with her and she broke.

But, if treated right, they are perfect. And give me a break about the weight issue, if the few pounds that adds concerns you, I guess that means you are stripping out your radio?

Cheers,

...I'm 5'10" and think it's just fine, especially for passengers with 'short-arms'.

It's for the midgets with small arms and hands. You know. The ones who mod their cars with the Lux H8 kit.

The plastic arm is light. But how much weight could you save by removing the motors? I'm sure it's a few pounds. The hole left in the panel could just be filled up by taking the end of the arm and fastening over the hole. So, I don't see a problem disabling it. Unless you install Lux H8s.

Those 2 crazy seat belt extenders have a mind of their own. The passenger side almost always extends even when no has sat on that side in a month. Ridiculous. I also don't like the noise those 2 contraptions make when they extend and withdraw.

I'm pulling fuse #30 today.

Mine misses the darn belt 1/2 the time and it has gotten stuck in the "out" position twice already, so I would say it is definitely the one thing in this car that is destined to fail sooner than later.

One of many things I wish BMW would have removed in exchange for weight savings...
