Where Can I buy a Helmet?
I've signed up for a couple HPDE and I need to buy a Snell/DOT Helmet for my upcoming events. There are ton of places online that I could purchase from but I would like to try things on to make the smartest purchase?
Where can I try on/purchase a Helmet in the NYC Metro area and has a large selection, I'm willing to drive 1hr away so distance isn't a problem hell its half the fun...Thanks guys

I agree with bmwe34m5, this is a great place for racing gears, etc...! It is very conveniently located for us Monsta. I bought my helmet there (Bell open face.... I did not want to bother with a full helmet (heat, etc...) + if the airbag goes off, I think that a full face would actually be more dangerous for my neck than anything else) See you soon Monsta! Manny212....I would see you in Lime Rock on 05/15 if you go. I have already registered with NJ chapter BMW CCA.

CDOC down at New Jersey Motorsports Park has some good SA2005 helmets for decent prices, I was just there over the weekend.

jegs.com or summit.com..... Both have a full line of simpson equipment. They have the lowest prices available and shipping is sometimes free.
If you dont like the fitment just exchange it no questions asked. I have a simpson open face with the nomex lining. Been racing with it for years.

I was at NJMP this past weekend for the member event and saw the CDOC store for the first time. The selection over at Bob's (Stable Energies) is actually bigger and better than what the store at NJMP has. As for mnotorcycle helmets, that's what i've used for years although this year I finally broke down and bought a helmet (non-motorcycle). Got it last Friday, just in time to use at NJMP for the first time on Saturday.

I did consider an open face, but even when on my bikes, it seems that even if you leave the shield cracked open 5mm, a pebble, fly or UFO makes it's way right in. I went with Stig's helmet.

Monsta,
If you check the NJ BMW CCA website, section "Forms" (http://www.njbmwcca.org/services/fil....php?type_cd=F), you will find some great reference material. For example, if you take a look at page 3 of the "Tech FAQ" doc, you will learn that SNELL rated helmets are classified as "M" (no, not for BMW M3 ...but for Motorcycle) and "SA" for Special Applications. The helmets for Car driving, fall i the latter category. I would recommend you also read the "Driver School Handbook". See both docs below as PDFs but make sure to check if new versions are available on the CCA website. Hope to see you soon on the track!

i got a Bell S2R I believe can't remember the exact model...it was the one that I fit me the best after trying on dozens...they have a couple for 30% off but unfortunately those didn't fit me properly, I got a full face b/c coming from riding motorcycles I feel more comfortable w/ the front protection a little sense of security that I didn't feel from the open face, it really comes down to what your comfortable with fits your head...
EDIT: I got this one in black http://www.bellhelmets.com/product/p...ic.cfm?pic=758 cool let them know I sent you, I had told them that someone else from m3post was probably going to pass by soon
