M3 Exhaust Mod - Video

Hey Guys,

I did the exhaust mod and took a video of it. Its my first video so i apologize if the editing isn't the best.

I did it for under $100. It would have been close to free if I had a welder. I ended up paying someone $85 to weld it up for me.

I've seen some people paying $400+ to get this done.
you can save yourself a few bucks.
Removing the exhaust takes about 10 minutes, and 15 minutes to put it back up.

I used a $30 grinder that you can buy as well.
and a $4 cutting disc.

You can cut the inside pipes yourself, or have your welder do it. Takes 2 minutes to cut them yourself if you have a sawzall.

Anyways, here's the video. Any questions feel free to respond on the video, or on here. OR, just PM me.

This is really interesting; have there been sound comparisons between this mod and the BMW PE?

Hey Dr. Anthony,

I just noticed you are in Edmonton! Was wondering if I could hear how the exhaust mod sounds like compared to stock. I am planning on doing this, but need to hear the difference...

Cheers!

Ricky

Its probably a bit itchy but I never had any issues. I think its a fiberglass type, but agreed. In the future it would probably be best to use gloves to remove it.

I can try to get a comparison between the two. I'll find someone locally who has it and then i'll make a video with the same camera.

Just got this done today at Drive Auto Works in Clifton, great bunch of guys.

Sound is innnnncredible compared to stock, you'll notice immediately when you start her up again and the cold start kicks in (if you still have it). All windows down and you'll get a much throatier sound from that stock box, something I think should have came directly from the factory. Just driving down the street after installation, you'll hear a LOT more exhaust burble bouncing off of other cars and walls. Almost feels like you installed a new axle back or something, but for a fraction of the price.

Really happy with the outcome. If anyone is on the fence about this, just do it. You wont regret it.

you don't really need to. They can only weld so much around. its also tight enough that it won't affect it. The exhaust will always take the path of least resistance which is straight out the tail pipe

I've seen it where they split the pipe, weld in the bottom halves, then join the rest to finish it off.

Good question from you.....
Make the full pipe good fit in between, and weld as fare as possible under the pipe. Don't worry...the perforated pipe was full of holes...so...no problem.
Even the original (oem-pipe )are not welded 100 % under the pipe.....You should... heare the result....check this out v v v

2.5" diameter pipe, stainless or what have you. 5-6 inches in length, depending on how far you cut into the perforated pipe end (end that doesnt slide out).

That's correct. they'll be about 6 if you cut right after the perforated part ends.
