Sorry for massively late reply. You can easily pull the console up. Just be careful as there are some wires attached for
The power, edc, and I drive buttons. If you having tons of trouble getting it in, you could use a bit of super glue (from auto parts store not regular store). That will adhere the boot to the center console. If you need to remove it later, just pop the shift knob up and remove the console. It just attaches with snaps. Really easy. I did this over the weekend (ring swap) and cannot for the life of me get it to F10 shifter and boot to snap back in even after trimming and gluing. I am almost to the point of putting the ring back on the old M3 boot and just swapping the knob. Any other pro tips out there?

Wasted 2 hours to get it back in. Do these two things: 1. Trim all the extra leather. If you are using glue then get rid of the leather around the clips as well - the glue will hold it well enough. 2. Use a mallet with a towel wrapped around the head and gently hammer the ring in. Worked for me. |

I did mine yesterday and had similar issue for about 15 mins but I believe mine is fully snapped in. A slight tug on each corner and it did not move.
I swapped the lower ring, cut slots for the clips, and folded all the fabric under. I then sat on the center console and use both hand and my body weight to snap it back down. |

Does anybody know if the F80 M3 knob fits the same way? It looks identical and is illuminated, but I am not sure about the boot size.

The knob sits perfectly on the gearstick. The leather boot is indeed larger and the leather itself is thicker so you need to carry out some trimming before you can get it in. The ring is separate for the M3 and M5. Need to cut the ring out from the old boot and attach the new boot to the old ring - I suggest gorilla glue but people have done it without glue as well. |

No... you will need to remove the boot/knob from the F80 plastic frame.

I am not sure if you guys understand me here. I am not asking if the F80 boot is the same as the E92, it's pretty obvious that it is not. I am asking if the F80 boot/knob can be used instead of F10 M5 boot/knob with all the fitment corrections necessary for the F10 knob.

That's the f10 535 and 550 knob.
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...d/25112284056/ Not positive on the difference from that knob to the f10 m5 knob but the m5 knob is listed as lighted and weighted. The 535 knob doesn't state either. For a 9$ difference why not get the m5 knob knowing it's the correct one? |

It's the same knob but doesn't look to be illuminated (no wires in the pics).

That being said, it looks like the F80/F82 knobs are more expensive than the F10...compare on ECS (F80/F82) https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...g/25112284705/ (F10) https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...8aAtAzEALw_wcB |

I will post some feedback next week after I get it done. But yeah new it is more expensive so it probably won't be very useful for others :

Read all 12 pages on the m5 shift knob and was ready to put the order in. I walk into my car to see how hard it'll be to do the swap and realized I already had a m5 shift knob installed. I guess the previous owner did the swap and I didn't even notice it. I've owned the car for a little over 10 months.
