It doesn't seemed as they robbed the house but actually robbed him. Shooting someone in the back as they are fleeing is not self defense as I understand it. Now if he would have shot him when there was a gun in his face, that would have been a totlly different story. Once again it depends on your state.

I'm amazed you're not being held on charges honestly. You used deadly force on a man fleeing the scene. Your only defense, as I can see it, is that they were still committing armed robbery (a felony). While they were fleeing though, you no longer had the threat of deadly force against you and your right to use deadly force to protect yourself was no longer in effect.

I hope your state's laws are different than mine!

I don't think they wanted to charge me with anything considering the perp was a career criminal that had been on a robbing spree spanning 3 months prior to running into me. So I felt like I was a hero for putting an end to his spree and not killing him in the process.

That must be FL law. Because I have a couple of friends that took the class one in MA, CT and NC , and they all say something different. Most of them pretty much preach the opposite , to avoid shooting someone.

New England states (except NH) are almost anti-handgun. The CCW license isn't recognized by the other states and MA will try and prosecute for even saying the word GUN while the sun is up.... Not the best place to use as a baseline.

Worst place in the country for gun owners.
