How much for front brakes?
My front brakes were not replaced under the maintenance warranty and are now coming up on needing to be done. Anyone know much this will run? Also, do you have to replace rotors and pads at 35000 miles?

Brake replacement is done as needed. Mileage is normally a recommendation.

find someone to show you how to replace rotors and pads. it's easier on a car than it is on a bicycle, and you save a ton of cash if you're reasonably inclined. You'll need a relatively small set of tools and a jack. Well worth the investment if you're going to keep the car for any period of time.

A complete oem replacement of pads, rotors, fluid, and sensors is $1400 in parts alone.

In hundreds of thousands of miles of driving, I have never had a car that needed front and rear brakes at the same time. All needed fronts much sooner. This cost probably can be spread out over a couple of years, depending on how much you drive.
I just bought a set of front pads for my E90M3, not because it needed them, but because I wanted a slightly higher performance pad (Stop Tech Street Pad). Cost was $85 shipped. Fluid is $12 a liter for something like Ate, but you can spend $40 or $80 if you want. Sensors are not big bucks. Braided lines if you want them are $125 a set (I bought ECS). I have not looked up the price of front rotors yet, but those are the big ticket items. Get the part number and shop around. As people say, find someone to help you DIY. Brakes are pretty easy (except for those two inner braided hoses in the rear . . . .). |

I currently have 72k miles on my car and not once i had to replaced my rear or front... although my rear are almost due... I have done my research on some prices and best deal. since your in OHio.... I suggest go to the dealer and ask for internet price and if they dont give that to you find another dealer.... if that doesnt work order from TURNER... its cheap...
I am about to replace my rear pads and rotors that will cost me $320...Bought a semi used rotors for 240 with just under 1k miles and pads for 90 of course new. not bad right... DIY is your best bet... if your worried about the cost... as for me im a DIY guy... FYI the front a a tad bit more expensive..

So question, I have 36k miles currently. My maintenance is up in January and I'll probably hit 40k by then. My brakes are in pretty good shape. If I track the car and wear them down, will they replace them? Is it really done "as needed"?

Even after 3 track days, and 33k miles, my pads still had a lot of life left in them. |
