Hmmm...interesting. All of the videos I have seen of the axleback have it (not as bad as the full system, but they definitely have that tinny sound). I guess I will just have to hear it for myself.

I have had both the full GT system and just the GT axle back on my car and can assure you that the axle back alone does not ring. All things aside I cant stand the look of the big round polished SS RPI muffler cans. It makes the car look to ricey from the back...

FYI the ringing sound is caused by the increase in exhaust velocity when the cats are removed. The original GT Muffler has a side inlet for the exhaust gas and it creates a ringing sound when the cats are removed. The new GTM mufflers have a straight through design, make amazing power, are loud as hell and drone like a mofo!

There are 3 RPi exhausts for the M3.

1. GT (perfect when used as an axleback. 10hp+)

2. GTM (Balls out exhaust with big power but is LOUD. 25hp+)

3. GTC (same power as the GTM but about 50% quieter. Its just a tad louder than the GT axleback)

Number 1 or 10 was installed on somebodys car in LA. The other 3 went out of the country. I'll try to see if I can have the guy answer your question.

Wassup ucla bruin, got the RPI GTC installed last friday. Its pretty quiet inside the cabin, minimal to zero drone. Closer to zero for me, but it all depends on how u drive. My RPi exhaust on my 550i was actually louder IMO. But when u get on it, u'll hear it and u can def hear the diff from stock! Btw i just have the axleback installed, after the 1200 mile service, the GTC pipes are coming on!

Hi I purchased the gtm system and while it sounded amazing it droned like hell. ,my questions, what are the design differences between the gTC and gtm? Are there any added resonators or is just the difference of mufflers?

Also on the gtm where the primary cats are. Was it replaced with a resonator or is it straight thru piping. I was thinking of adding a resonator there to reduce drone.

Thanks for the description and congrats on the new car. Anyway we can meet up for 5 min to hear it in person? I'm worried about any drone from inside the cabin.

Nice exhaust.. But you are a serious moron for driving like that through a residential area.. If you're gonna drive fast, do it on a open highway with no houses or cars around or on a track.. That actually pissed me off, I live near that area and if I ever see you driving like that I'm gonna confront you or even call the cops.. Too many people die every day because of drivers like you
