I was 21 when I shipped over and 22 when I came home. Actually, I flew over on a C-141A Starlifter, complete with 3 trucks and all of our equipment - a bit unusual.

The flight home was on a DC-8 with a brief refueling stop in Honolulu. I'll never forget the nice Hawaiian lady who said, "Welcome home, boys" to my buddy and me. Other than my immediate family and friends, that was the only time I heard that.

Well, I'm glad and your buddy made it back. I'll always respect the ppl on the ground, but very seldom the powers who put them there. Take care.

Agree completely on Vegas.

As far as cruises, I've been on a couple and they are great IF what you want is a nice slow paced relaxing vacation. Frequently I come back from a vacation needing another vacation. Cruises have been one of the rare instances where that was not the case.

Agree on cigarettes. How can anyone smoke in these times? Wish I never did. Glad I stopped. Wish everyone would.

Is not cool to smoke. It is not cool to get lung cancer, throat cancer, emphysema, heart disease, head and neck cancer, oral cancer, etc.

I'll never be fanatic about pro sports again. I was hooked when I was younger. Now the contracts are so over the top. I'm no longer interested at all.

Camping in a tent. I love the outdoors, but even if the weather is nice, camping in a tent still sucks. Nothing like sleeping on the hard ground in a plastic bag in a mountain range full of bears.

Wow, doesn't sound bad at all. One vote for the PRO side. Tx.

OMG Hell to the Agreed.

Anyway, that's why they have that...what do you call that for 'luxury fancy camping'? Glamping? I'm too lazy to look it up, you guys know what I mean.

Agreed on bears. But get decent kit and you can be pretty damn comfy! I've spent about 2 years with sleeping bag and camping mat as my only bed. It was a fairly basic down sleeping bag with cotton liner, and exped downmat 5. Will 100% get another downmat when the current thing I have dies...

Camped when I was younger. In a tent, on the ground in a sleeping bag. This body could not and would not do that now. My old back has aches and pains just doing nothing. Will not imagine how it would feel now sleeping on the ground.

Over the decades I've had dreams of urinating on Lyndon B. Johnson's and Robert S. McNamara's graves.

I picked up smoking during the last half of my Army deal. That would be about 16 months. Tobacco was free in Vietnam, plus about 75% of the troops smoked.

I quit cold-turkey the day I set foot on US soil and never looked back (I did keep my Zippo, however).

As to Mary Jane, never touched the stuff, although it was super easy to get in Vietnam. Maybe I was lucky, but we did not have a drug problem on my 5-man team, with the exception of one instance. A new guy arrived (FNG) and a few days later I smelled marijuana. It was him. I busted his ass and that was that. I told him the only thing that was going to be loaded out there in the field was his M-16.

Marijuana has been hit or miss for me. If I'm alone I don't care for it at all unless I want a sleep aid, just makes me super sleepy. Now I've also had it with friend where it makes everything hilarious and just made the whole thing better, however more often it seems to be the sleepy version.

#6 for me is the total opposite. Would never go back to a regular job. In fact I try to save as much as I can and put myself in a position where if something happens to my business and I have to shut it down or something I can just retire or at least not have to go back to a regular job until I can start up some other business. That being said my business is me and it's online so I don't have to deal with a lot of the bs I'm sure comes with other businesses like having staff, offices/stores etc.

Just saw this post and yeah, I think some of these things would’ve made it a little more comfy for me. I still wouldn’t do it anymore.

Ok, I have to ask but did you go camping for 2 years....or are you living in a van down by the river? /Chris Farley

Yup I went on a camping road trip in the mountains, my GF at the time convinced me that a tent with a "sleeping pad" would be good enough. What a heck of a time that was. We did about 2000 miles. I got about 2 hours sleep each night. One night it poured and I had just gotten my E90, let me tell you it isn't comfortable to sleep in. The last night I said nope we are getting a hotel. I can laugh about it now, but it was hard to enjoy the nice driving roads on zero sleep and a stiff back.

Wave runners!

I love being on the water in a boat, so I bought 2 nice and pricey Yamaha wave runners. I spent an entire Saturday in a boating safety class and found out quickly I hate all that slamming and salt water in my eyes. And also got attacked by greenhead flies.

Also I don't smoke weed anymore. Almost 20 years now. Bad for your lungs. Have tried edibles. Not really reliable. Have gotten pretty high off some in a batch, and then hardly anything at a different time from the same batch. Honestly don't need it or really like it. A little wine or some other alcoholic beverage once a week or so is all I want. Moderation. That's the key.
