Hey Jussi - good to see you back.

You have got to tell us what you have been up to!!! There have been rumours that you have driving some new cars for BMW.

You mentioned forced induction - any chance the new M3 will have turbos? I posted a few months ago that there looked to be an intercooler visible throught the front grille on one of the test mules. Theory was poo-poo'd by most, but I don't think it can be ruled out if we are looking at 450 bhp from 4 litres.

I wasn't realistically expecting 2700 lbs. I will be happy with 3300-3400lbs.

Well, if you count the E70 as new, yes. It's going through some winter trials in Sweden and I'm in. Can't get any more specific than that.

Won't comment on the FI for the M3.

April is here soon and the proto will be in my hands when the time comes... can't wait.

Best regards,

Jussi

Is that at the crank or at the wheels?

Vishnu tuning has already gotten ~340hp out of the 335i at the "wheels" with a piggyback.

I suggest we should start a poll on the amount of HP and torque the new M3 will have!

The winner will be known for ever on this forum of course with all priviliges belonging to that status :

So let's summarize:
A V8 engine that's turbocharged and has a output of 450 HP???
That would be a shock the BMW M freaks wouldn't recover from...
In other words: The E92 M3 engine will never ever be turbocharged.
Maybe you meant DI (which is also unlikely but not as much as FI)

Best regards, south

Maybe BMW realises that it can't cater for the "M Freaks" forever!! Looks like the competition is getting as little too close and maybe a bit of light sequential turbocharging is what's needed to maintain the advantage.

Jussi - I don't suppose you fancy a lodger for a couple of weeks in April do you?!?! I'll buy you beer!!

Heh,

I'd do that, but I was forced to sign my first NDA regarding BMW's when I got into this E70 program.

But I'll definitely post photos and impressions on it.

Best regards,

Jussi

I'd suppose crank, that's what they usually advertise, no? Haven't talked to anybody at Hartge about the specifics as the 335i isn't really my cup of tea at this point. I'm sure they could take out more, but Hartge is known for reliable tuning, and they stress-test their tunes, so there is probably a safe limit out there. (You get a 2 year warranty if you buy the car straight from Hartge tuned - 1 year if you tune up a pre-existing vehicle.)

Best regards,

Jussi

I made a post long ago about everyones guesses at many specs. It was not a poll though. Do a poll just make sure you are clear about actual hp at the crank vs. at the wheels as well as actual vs. brochure number. I'll reply to the poll ASAP!

My prediction is 425 bhp and weighing in at 3495 lbs. Actual (dynoed) horsepower may vary.

My prediction is an engine with 440 HP and 351 ft-lbs of torque considering the fact that BMW is benchmarking the M3 with the 911 and AM V8, and the car will weigh 3350 lbs

Yeah the rumour mill consensus of this week seems to be 420BHP, v8, non turbo - block is derived from the V10 of the papa M5 and the mama M6, weight was a concern (absolute weight and distribution) so engine has a (relatively) low displacement of 4.0 litres (compared to the new AMG v8s which do over 5 litres) and be of aluminium block to have a weight not much more than the current e46M3 engine. The car is likely to have more composite materials as panels etc. to keep weight in check.
