I think the answer to the question is not relevant because it creates this all or nothing scenario which is not realistic for most of us with families, mortgages, etc.

I would qualify my answers (just to be different ) and say if I had to just have one of the three: M3 hand down. But if money was not an object and I could have two of three it would be M3 and M6 GC. And lastly, I would never own all three M couples or sedans. I would replace the M5 with X5M instead or replaced the M3 with a Porsche 911 S. Then again maybe go with the Ferrari 458 or maybe,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Money changes everything.

it'll be nice if you have money and no responsibilities, but you're right, this is like a pie-in-the-sky question that is classic in the M3 vs... subforum. I'm sure there's a few guys out there with his kind of cash to blow, hell there was a guy on M5post who just bought a F13 M6 to go along with his F10 M5.

But we can come up with all the reasons why we want a Koneigsegg vs a Veyron, but who are we kidding?

The only person I'm aware that's lucky enough to have driven all of these cars would be pkilla himself.

2013 CLS63 AMG > M5/6. M3 is a better drivers car than the other choices because it's smaller.

These should help you decide. I would say M3 but I don't know you as a person.

M3 Coupe- For the sports car enthusiast.

M3 Sedan- For the sports car enthusiast with family.

M5- Family man car with get up and GO!

M6 Coupe- Mid Life Crisis and or Single, Age 45+

M6 Sedan- Age 45+ and hates his family life. So he buys a really fast car to drown the sounds of his bitch of a wife and screaming kids.

Just my opinions

I looked hard at the M5 and M6. I chose the M3 again...it's the most rewarding to drive.

I recently trader my 2012 E92 M3 for a 2013 F10 M5. At first I missed the nimbleness of the M3 but once the 1200 mile service was done I quickly realized what 500 torque could do. I don't track so to me the M5 is surprisingly enjoyable to drive around town when compared to the M3.

I totally agree with you.
Usually, I'm a coupe guy, but I gotta say that this gen M5 > M6.

M3 is the cutoff for me with BMW. At ~$65-75k nicely optioned (with ED), The M3 is probably one of the best value/dollar propositions out there. However the M5 at ~$100k and the M6 at ~$140k make little sense to me. At $100k you can be in a GT-R, lets see the M5 try to keep up. At ~$140k you're in 911 Turbo territory, again, lets see the M6 compete.

I understand those who like the looks/style of the higher M cars, but to me the value proposition is just not there.

You start comparing apple and oranges if you bring gtr into the mix. M3 is a great car and have many good reviews. Its the benchmark for many car companies. The new M6 has been getting the highest reviews on style and performance, but the price is not affordable by many.
