No money to fix roads there since they spent everything on Big Dig, didn't they (like 14.8 billions...crazy). In Boston that is.

That's a big pothole! My friend wrote a letter to the city council for the same thing. They reimbursed the cost to fix his wheel.

This is like 3 people already posting about driving over pothole in last couple days. Man we do spend too much money overseas, neglecting our own stuff.

For those reading this, I strongly recommend road hazard ins. to cover wheels and tires.

The policy from theautoclub.com at $27.95 or so a year is quite reasonable.

I have it and they agreed to pay the $199 replacement cost of the tire (Pirelli P_Zero Nero M&S)

About 17% of Federal spending is defense/military, including Iraq. The other 83% is "free" drugs for seniors, $350 million "bridges to nowhere", mortgage bailouts, stuff like that.

Highways are a basic state and local responsibility. I hit a fine New Jersey pothole last weekend -- fortunately with a 16" wheel so nothing bent. I have my doubts about a state that decides to open cloning laboratories when they can't figure out how to perform basic services -- like filling the potholes on the state highways.

Maybe Massachusetts could fill the potholes with all the taxes they collect.

I intend to file a claim with the State of New Jersey to get reimbursed for replacing my rim.
I called and am waiting for the claim form.

I've had this happen to me before. Mine was in a construction zone though. The state had me contact the construction company handling that zone and they reimbursed me within 2 weeks.

I just got the tire replaced ($236)
I found out the rim was damaged and needs to be replaced.
That will be somwhere between $400 and $500.
Total damage $650 - $700
Insurance coverage caps at $350.
I am going to file a claim with the State of New Jersey.
The car is drivable - I am going to order a new rim today - have it installed next week.
All of this makes me wonder about the people who have put 20" rims on.

Here in Cali, all claims for freeway/highway related damges go thru CalTrans - the California Transportation Authority. They have a legal dept. that processes all claims and settled millions a year with CA drivers for reasons like yours. The only caveat is that there has to be notice of the problem for them to take responsibility. That is, they have on record from a driver or an employee that there was a pothole on the road that you were on b4 you hit the hole and damaged your ride.

You will need to file a claim with the Mass. Transportation Authority and plead your case. They will normally send you a claim for and you will need to provide receipts and documentation for reimbursement.
