VIN verification in NY

I'm selling my car to a buyer in Penn. He is required to get a VIN verification before he can register the car. By this I mean he needs to verify with an MV-Form that the VIN on the car matches the title etc. Ideally he would like me to get it done in NY so I can forward it to him with the title so he can register the car in Pa. then come here to NY and drive it home legally. NY does not require VIN verifications therefore I am having a hard time finding a place to get it done. Has anyone ever had this done in NY? Apparantly notaries and certified mechanics at dealerships as well cops are acceptable forms of proof to sign off on this but I've spoken to cop friends and they won't touch it. Any ideas?? Thanks.

I bought a bike in PA and we went to a title place for local transfer and private sell where they did all this for us. Best bet is drive the car down to PA and do everything over there. Charge him for your troubles

You can have any police officer do it. What the hell is wrong with your cop friend? You just go to your local department and tell them you need a VIN verification. They look at your car, verify everything, write it up like a report, then they charge you for the paperwork. I believe it was $20 the last time I did it.

I called my local precinct and the NYSDMV. They both confirm that the precincts no longer do VIN checks.

Maybe its different on the island. I did in Westchester no problem. Go to an attorney office that has a Notary on staff, they can knock it out too. Your insurance broker I believe can also do it as well as Mechanics who do Photo Inspections for your car insurance verification.
