Throttle Actuator - Bank 2

Well, after 59K miles I have to have the TA on bank 2 replaced. Car stranded me on Friday and BMW Assist had me towed to my local dealership.

Thank goodness (again) for being CPO as at 53K miles my bank 1 throttle actuator malfunctioned and had to be replaced.

I'll gladly pay my $50 deductible again for this.

So far I since I bought the car in April 2012 (39K) I have had a new differential (low speed grinding noise), #6 coil pack, a driveshaft, and banks 1 and 2 throttle actuators replaced.

Hopefully I'll be okay now for a while (only 7 more coil packs to look forward to). ha

Good luck! I had to replace one TVA so far, hoping the next one is good for some time. Now I am having O2 sensor problems but it should be an easy fix!

Failing TBA

I've got one going out, 48k mi. but out of warranty by one year. $1,776 to replace one, but they recommend doing both for $2,700. Damn. That's the dealer - checking independent shops.

Ouch Greg...very sorry to hear that. Keep us posted on which direction you go. I had them both go out in just a few months so take that for what it's worth. I know some have not had any issues.

It's a dice roll, but just going to replace the one. Indy shop could have saved a couple hundred if I'd taken it there first. Should have it back tomorrow

Funny thing was that when I was driving to the dealer on 4 cylinders some guy in a Charger SRT8 was trying to get me to play - I felt stupid!

I find it insane the dealers charge that much for labor. I could fly out there with TA in hand for 1500 (including plane ticket) and still have a few hundred bucks left for beer.

Don't know if you are a DYI type or not, but it's really not bad at all.

LOL...doesn't it always eem to happen like that?

When mine went out this last time I could not even drive the car. BMW Assist had to come and rescue me...thankful I was in a large parking lot!

TBA fixed

Well, my lucky Friday - got the car back with bank 1 actuator replaced out-of-warranty, and No Charge! Dealer covered it under Goodwill. Even though the dealer has changed ownership in the last year an mostly new people, it pays to have a history for purchase and service! Props to BMW Portland. Need to go buy a lottery ticket.

Wow can't beat that. Went in prepared to have $1700 bill, walk away with $0 bill. Nice!

2nd TBA in a week

Bank 2 went out yesterday, one week after bank 1 - what are the odds? Again, cost was covered (49k mi, just over 5 years). BMW is covering part, dealer the labor. So, escaped ~$2,700 in charges overall and didn't have to do it myself! Repair was completed within 5 hours of me dropping it off this morning (barely made it there!).

Odds are great actually (as you already know). Both of mine went out within a couple weeks of each other. Glad they are both getting done!

Just replaced both a month ago.
2008 with 50k.
$2500 at an Indy shop.
The car had been going into limp mode on startup just a few time since February. It would give a DSC error something about unable to decelerate engine. Now that makes sense.

About the same time the CCC died.

Ouch on having to pony up for that. I have been very fortunate with my CPO purchase (fortunate in the fact that i am CPO and have had issues that have been covered).

Welcome to the board!

Seriously, next time you guys have this issue, I will gladly give you my phone number via PM and walk you through the whole thing. $800 for the part, a thank you for the help is all I'll charge. Assuming you can halfway work with tools, this is a simple job.

Great offer. I'm glad I went through the dealer, however, since the whole thing was covered by goodwill dollars, I think mostly because I was under 50k miles, even though at 5 years.

My car is in the shop for the same thing. Did you have the extended warranty? They tell me its not covered by the extended warranty. I have the Power Train Plus from BMW.
