sounds like you are making it crank longer. i believe you can "let it go" earlier and it would still start.

maybe?

Mine won't start. Oh sorry, my car is not built yet.

Sounds normal to me. I just hope that the new M3 is not using the same problematic 335 fuel pump.

I just push the button and let go, not really holding it down. I guess maybe because the car is cold...

I started the car up today after a drive when the engine warmed up and the crank was shorter. Im thinking the crank is long on initial startup on cold engines.

It's definitely when the engine is cold. I noticed it more so this morning than normal b/c of this thread. But when I left to head home, and the car was still somewhat warm, it cranked right up.

The fuel system must maintain a specified "rest" pressure with the engine shut off. You may have a leaking fuel pump check valve, or leaky pressure regulator that drain rest pressure and cause long cranking times.

OR

dirt, sediment or other debris in the tank can cause the pump’s check valve to stick open (which can cause a hard starting condition due to loss of pressure when the engine is shut off)

If you start having more symptoms like rough idle, hesitation, stumbling, loss of high-speed power it is clearly due to loss of fuel pressure. It may not be the fuel pump can also be caused by a restriction in the fuel line or a defective fuel pressure regulator.

That said I remember when I testdrove the M3 I did notice the crank time was a bit longer than my SL55 AMG. It may be normal.

It is a long startup. I now have > 5,000 Kms. and honestly never felt such a long time. In my M3 it is always short and consistent. I would take it in just to be sure.

After watching the 1st video I realized that my cranks are longer consistently.

Here's an example from a few moments ago. 62 degrees in the garage and about 16 hours since being driven last.

even when it's warm? it's not instant but i dont think mine's abnormal... when it's cold it's normal to have a longer crank. u guys are worrying too much. if it gets to like 3-5 seconds i'd worry about it. again i havent watched the vid's

Yeah, I don't think it's long enough to worry about. Have you never had a car that took a second to crank?

My car cranks very similiar to both post #1 and post #37. Nothing abnormal for this car at all.

We aren't having fuel pump problems on car with less than a week on them.

Remember this car has a whole new type of measuring pressure altitude (aviation term) and temperature than other cars in the BMW lineup and most other fuel injected cars world wide. Perhaps it take a few tenths of a second longer to find the right mixture on start up.

Took some video this morning. First one is a cold start. The car sat overnight and it's 60 degrees outside. Second one is starting it up after it had warmed up.

I took these with my phone, so the sound isn't very good, but you can watch the tach to see how long it takes.
