Deadline to order 2008 M3??

I am very proud to say that today I officially became a member of the M3 club! I ordered my 2008 M3 coupe, which will be delivered in 60 days per the dealer. I have been reading many, many posts on this website as I made the most informed decision I could, so I wanted to thank everyone for all of their input.

In searching for my M3, 2/4 dealers today told me that they could NOT custom order me a 2008 M3 b/c they "discontinued production for the 2008 model." They both told me that I would have to order a 2009 model, and that production wouldn't start until Sept 1. I would then have to wait until Nov/Dec for the arrival. I told this to the last dealer (also the one that I eventually purchased from) and they were not aware of it but did order my 2008 and also gave me a production #. So just to make those aware that to my knowledge the 2008 will only be made during July of this year, and that dealers are already denying purchase of custom made M3's. Whether or not this is fair is another issue, but its out there.

I am VERY happy about the 2008 model. I know the 2009 will be a little nicer, as all next year models tend to be, in general. But I wanted to have it for at least the end of this summer so that I can enjoy it.

You miss out on the new and improved iDrive.

At the last check on Autotrader, there were over 1300 new M3's sitting on dealer's lots. Why wait 60 days?....dealer should be able to trade cars now.

I'm still going to wait for an '09, as in 60 days, they will be building the '09's and the new '08 will be technically 1 year old and the value will drop at least $10K. If for some reason you don't like the car or are forced to sell it for any reason, you'll take a big hit on depreciation. Plus I see that nothing will be newer for close to another year. To each his own.

Congrats on the new M3....they are wonderful cars. I'll be getting my 6th M car in 10 years. Yep, I'm a bit strange when it comes to swapping out cars for the latest and greatest. So far I've survived huge depreciation since I'm so anal about my cars. I even polish the underside of my cars...yep, I need help.

You've got a good point JIO. It's also encouraging to hear that the M3 holds its value so well, especially if you are able, with proper care and maintenance, to be able to have a new M3 every couple of years. Like they say, "once you go M3 you never go back."

the only one that will change is the e90, the e92 m3 will be the same as the 2008, i have not heard nothing about 2009 e92 with updated idrive, or any other changes, the same thing happened in the e46 m3, bm
w only changed the tail lights in 2003 after 2 years. i think that would be the same in the e92, we wil see some changes in 2009.5 or 2010.

Might be the '10s that get the updates, who knows?

If the new iDrive is scheduled to be introduced in the USA MY2009 3 Series then it will be included in the 2009 M3... I don't see how a 328i will have a better Nav system than the M3 at the same option price. BMW just don't work that way...

Sure it will technically be a year old, but I think the depreciation will be offset by low mileage. That'll roll forward with the car. His MY2008 car will only have three months of mileage on the ODO.

i think there are some people that confirmed with their dealer that e92 will get the new idrive. It'll be just like the 330 to 335
