BMW CCA Los Angeles Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch, 07/13-14/2013

Registration is now officially open

So before anyone ask, why Spring Mountain, and why in the middle of SUMMER? Are you nuts? Well...

The summer months are the least likely months where we'll have SMMR members showing up needing to share a track with us. It's pretty much the most "available" dates to us. I couldn't secure the date earlier in the year in February and this is the next best available date to us. But that's all excuses.

The truth is, it's a track that few of us have had the pleasure of driving at. For the vast majority of our participants and instructors, this is, quite frankly...A brand new track. And even for those who've driven SMMR before, they've done quite a lot of expansion in the last few years and improvement in facilities that this will most likely feel like a brand new track. But most of all...

It's Spring Mountain. I was there last January. It's a phenomenal facility and a sh*tload of fun to drive. And I only drove the "short" track.

Is it going to be hot? Probably. Is it going to be VERY hot? Most likely. But is it going to be hotter than, say, Buttonwillow during the same time? I doubt it. Or Willow Springs? Probably not, and certainly not as windy. Pretty much the only facilities in the general facility that WON'T be hot as heck, would probably be Laguna Seca and THAT is happening in August.

Plus we've rented the air-conditioned club house and classroom for our use. Ideally, we'd be in relative comfort when we're not on track, and even when you're on track...It's going to be a very dry heat. We're going to try and forgo the "tent" format and basically have the students meet the instructors in the club-house prior to getting on track. We'll see how that works out.

AND it's an hour away from Vegas. Not saying that you should stay up until 4:30am on Saturday and Sunday morning playing No Limit Texas Hold'em at the high stakes table at the new Cosmopolitan*, but you "can." Bring the missus. Bring the "kids." Bring a few friends. Bring the mistress. There'll be stuff for them to do that allow you to enjoy your track weekend GUILT FREE.

Plus, it's probably the cheapest "weekend" school you'll likely see in the foreseeable future from the region, I'm afraid. $449 for CCA members, $499 for non-CCA members, $425 for A+ drivers (must have prior A+ experience, or been signed off to go solo in B with instructor recommendation to move up to A+, and acceptance is still up to the CI).

And I promise no "coned gate" on the front straight.

So c'mon. It's not going to be very often that we'll get to do SMMR, and they're actually REALLY selective as to who they allow to run here. I've been working them for about 1.5 years now and FINALLY we got something going, and quite frankly, if you guys don't show up (or show up and behave badly), this opportunity may not come up AGAIN.

p.s.: Don't forget to sign up for Buttonwillow on June 7th if you haven't done so! It's the only CCA Buttonwillow event of the year!

* I don't think there's a Casino at the new Cosmo, right?

Really want to go, but working right now. Trying to switch.
Are there hotels in town or is Vegas the best place to stay?

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Harrah's has a property in Pahrump too. That's where we will be staying.
