Input on Window Tint

I just wanted to get some input on window tint for the M3. I'm planning on getting it done at the local BMW dealership for about $245. I just can't decide on the actual %. The guy told me 20% in the back and 35% on the sides. Does that sound like a good combination?

This is the M3 with factory tint. Not sure about the % as I bought the car in Germany.

Thanks...

You're in Texas, and it gets HOT (as you know). I went with 5% on the back, 18% on the quarter windows, and 35% on the driver and passenger. Kind of fades from light to dark and looks GREAT.

I had 5% limos and got harrassed by cops constantly.., no tints now and have no more cop harrasment issues.

For me I dont like mixing percentages back and front windows..looks weird to me..all uniform is the way to go imo

In Texas, you can have limo on back and rear side windows, only restriction is driver and passenger has to be 35%.

IMO 20% all around is perfect. 5% looks ghetto and 35% isn't enough.

Thanks for all the input. Do you have any pictures of your M3 with the new tint?

Thanks for the picture. Your BMW looks great. Love the Brakes. I was looking at 35% but was not sure how dark that would be. Do you think that 35% is fairly similar to what you have or is it considerably darker?

Thanks...

Thanks bro.

Okay so my car started out with 35 but then it had to get re-done and I'm not sure if they put 35 or twenty, but I'll post of a picture of it from before this 3m.

I know it's hot and sunny down there and all, but your car looks really sweet without the tint imho. Super clean. I see a lot of white M3s w tint where I live and they all look the same. It's refreshing to see a sweet car without tinting...you can check out the interior and all. Plus you can keep a good view of The Heat in the mirrors.

Can't really tell from your pics because of the reflections, but what color is the interior of your car? Is it black? It plays a pretty important role on how dark the tint looks when looking at the car from the outside.

If it's black interior, I think you'd be surprised how dark 35% will look on the car, contrasting very well with the white, but still looking classy and not too dark. I have 35% on my AW E92 (black interior) and it looks pretty dark from outside. Besides, you're technically still legal even though it appears to be darker. When I was in VA, to be legal, I had to be 35%. I did it and it looked dark enough, but not too dark. No trouble with cops.

It's all personal preference though.

My interior is Black so I'm guessing 35% all around will be a perfect combo. I move around a lot so keeping it legal will be very beneficial.

Do you have a picture?

Thanks...

Here's a shot of mine. This is 35%. This was right after it was done, so still some drying to do. The dot matrix isn't as bad anymore as it looks in this picture, but it's a known issue in these cars.

I really like how it looks. You are right that the black interior will make it look much darker. I think this will be a great choice for my AW M3.

What type of tint material did you go with?

Also, would you have any more pictures of your M3 with the tint?

Sorry for all the questions...

Thanks...

Here's a couple more for you in different light. I am happy with the 35% all around (minus the windshield, tried to keep it somewhat legal). It's Pinnacle 35% ceramic tint. I got it done at LA Tint in Manassas, VA. I've read here someone that complains that ceramic tint messes with the CA and stuff, but that is not the case, at least it isn't with me. I have no electronic issues at all with ceramic tint.

Yup I have f1 pinnacle ceramic tint and it never messed with my electricals. I think they guarantee that with their tint too but not sure. 3m or pinnacle are popular brands around here still I think
