Where did you see that?

The donor car for the conversion was a brand new Lime Rock Edition E92 M3 with a new engine. I believe they just pulled it, bored and stroked it, then re-assembled it.

The first post of this thread implies that they acquired a donor engine.

Wrong. you were not attentive to the OP and getting in the way of my question.
Dinan stroker engine that's where. The conversion is done on a previous customer's engine, they swap with yours which becomes the base build for the next customer. Confirmed that weeks ago with a dinan stroker customer. They pay you some money back for your engine after they verified it's in good condition so you pay for the "conversion" only. Not a full engine when you already had one !
Dinan is by far the most professional in this market to judge others by.

Question was already asked to Alekshop. Apparently they're not answering.
If they take your engine and still charge you $26K it's a joke.

i know for a fact they had a donor engine, i saw it when i was at the shop with a friend.

$26k + core is a pretty standard price for a stroker. Its in league with Dinan and RD's pricing.

Dinan charges you $26k + $10k core. So you essentially pay $36k. Once you send them your old motor, they return $10k - which puts your cost at $26k ( same price as alekshop)

Yes they got a bare engine for it. Not the one in the car.
I stand corrected about Dinan pricing.. The true priced value of the stroker is actually $26k + $10k = $36k or $26K for the conversion (turning over your previous engine). A +40% cost increase over the oem engine for only 15% more volumetry. clearly not remotely justifiable by even the most enthusiasts.

Regardless of what Alekshop said, it doesn't matter as you've seen. Conversion or core exchange, the price is the same . . . as I told you three days ago.

It's a very labor intensive process and the parts (crank, pistons, rods, cams) are expensive. What did you expect?

no it's not the same. conversion means your old core remains your possession: price $36K.
exchange means they take your old core: price $26K

Parts of engine should cost less than full engine. They're charging through the roof for the build 'labor' that's what.

true - core or conversion. the price is the same for the parts and labor. $26k after core or $26k to convert your existing engine which you would have to provide prior to the build. If it was $26k no core, no conversion - that would be a $16k stroker.

But back on original topic - This GTS clone is badass.

We purchased a separate stock motor for this build. We wanted to have a second motor on hand for future builds. The cost of a motor build like this would require a motor core exchange.

First up we needed a base to start with so we purchased a brand new Lime Rock special edition M3 due to it having the factory GTS paint. This saved us from having to do a full paint conversion to get the factory GTS color.

Now that we had the car we had to decide on how to replicate the higher HP 4.4L motor used in the GTS. We decided to not only match the additional factory power but go beyond with a 4.6L build and custom cams. We contacted our friends at ESS Tuning who confirmed that tuning would not be an issue so we got to work. We designed all of the internals, acquired a stock motor and built it out, when finished we were pretty excited how it all came together.

Next up was the interior. There were many pieces we needed to source to keep the car as close to OEM as possible. We were able to source the OEM roll cage, rear seat delete, seats, steering wheel, door trim and arm rest. The finished product turned out better than we expected.

Once the interior was done we finished off the performance parts and exterior. We chose to use the Akrapovic GT4 exhaust, OEM GTS / Brembo brakes, a custom Ohlins race suspension and our high performance oil cooler to round out the performance parts. Exterior we once again wanted to source as much OEM GTS as we could so the GTS front lip, rear wing, rear plastic windows, euro spec front bumper and competition wheels wrapped in factory GTS spec Pirelli rubber were acquired to finish her off.

Now with the build finished the only thing left to do was to get her to the guys at ESS Tuning in Arizona for custom tuning.

Attachment 1186746

After a couple days on the dyno and on the road ESS had the car 100% dialed in. We finished breaking in the motor and got the final HP numbers on the car. Needless to say we were very happy with not only the HP and power curve but also how amazing the car drives.

Attachment 1186747

In the end all of the hard work was well worth it. We were able to accomplish our goal of building and experiencing as close to possible a GTS M3. In some ways we feel we even took the GTS platform to the next level. This car will remain in our stable for some time.
I am so glad I take my M3 to you Alek! Your the BEST!!!

This challenging build just shows how ahead you are of all the other shops.
