Funny interpretations
So, what everyone is saying is that the E92 M3 isn't as good as the E46 M3?
That is what everyone is crying about. Get real people. Please tell me you think the E46 M3 is better. Even with it's less direct steering and less torque than the E92 M3?

hahaha.... well said man. I honestly dont see what everyone is complaining about. Its almost like some people wouldnt be happy unless the new M ended up being better than the GT3 or something...

I just think everyone is still in love with the e46 like an ex-girlfriend or something... It sounds like a sweet ride to me - although I must admit it is a bit disappointing to read these reviews...
I'd prefer to read, "BMW has done it again" rather than "it may not be worth the premium over the 335i" |

Now I wouldn't buy one of those shit heaps if you had a gun in my mouth. The Vette ultimatly is not the better car in the long run. But that article perked a lot of ears up, and sold a lot of Vettes. A lot of people still chear for the US of A and dreamed of the day the Vette would finally take on the King of Kings. There are a lot of rich guys who would LIKE to buy American if they would simply offer a car to meet the German's. They never have until now. The point is, those expecations can be met on a cheaper priced car against a higher priced exotic. There is not one reason on earth that BMW couldn't deliver on the expecations of at least what the M3 is supposed to deliver on it's own merit, let alone taking on heavy weight contenders. BMW could have easily produced an M3 that the test drivers in the recent articels would have had the same reaction as the 335i brought. Hopefully, when Motor trend and the others get one for a full test, all my rants will get shoved into the toilet and the M3 was just driven on a bad day in these current tests. I hope. |

I'll happily give My M3 +40K in trade for an E92 M3 for anyone who thinks the E46 is better.

My thoughts exactly. Actually, at the end of the day, none of the reviewers said that they would take the E46 over the E92 either. They are pretty much saying that the E92 is a solid fun to drive car, which does not meet some of their expectations, that's all. And expectations are subjective. I'm looking forward to the objective test numbers when they come out--not that they tell the whole story or anything, but still...

Already has started
People are already whining that the DCT will be "too smooth and refined". They want the SMG, S6, shift at redline, neck snap. I know what they mean, that is raw and visceral and in some ways good. However, like I have posted elsewhere, DCT for me all the way. It will have smooth shifts, faster shifts, better power transfer, improved fuel economy, less transmission wear, more gears, automatic mode and most importantly fairly significantly improved acceleration. Mark my words, the whining from some E46 guys and SMG guys (and others as well) will be loud and pissy. All I can say is, UGH.

I've never had any complaints about the performance of the SMG when I'd doing a little spirited driving. It's the clunky shifts in normal traffic that have always annoyed me. Looking forward to the DCT.

I suppose either we
1) Ignore him 2) Amuse ourselves by counting his useless posts til he's banned or 3) Wait til school is back in session. There's an acronym I see a lot on the Boxster Board .... "DNFTT" = Do Not Feed The Trolls. Although it's hard sometimes not to get a dig in! |

I have an E46 M3 and have no problem with the E92 M3 surpassing it. I surely hope and expect it to. Fortunately, I plan on keeping both. HPF turbo kit, here I come. The E92 will make a nice DD.

The reviews have been good for the M3. Good not great. Do you remember jeremy clarksons review of the M3 on topgear when it came out? Or all of the various magazines that reviewed it? In comparison, these reviews were alot harsher on the M3. Maybe expectations were higher this time around, and I will reserve judgement until I can drive one. However, you have to admit that comparatively, the reviews are a bit disconcerting.
