Question about iPod and USB adaptor

picking up my 2010 this week and went to the dealer to last night to try out the iPod but failed.

I have a few question if Technik or some other knowledgeable would be kind enough to answer.

I have the iPod & USB adaptor option, it means I get the 6FL (y-cable) to play the iPod correct?
But this also means the audio is seriously degraded compared to putting a CD right???
I read in another thread you can use the iPod cable it came with apple (white one that u hook up to PC) and you can play that to bypass the decompression of the quality, but you lose playlist feature???
I tried that yesterday but it seems not to work.

Last question, most of the music I listen to is chinese so many of the artist/song titles are in chinese. What would happen then?

Title would not show up on the screen. Tried it with Japanese titles and it just shows nothing or ?????. The audio quality of music coming from the iPod is dependent on the file itself. If the file is sampled at a low bitrate, you pretty much get crap out of you iPod. If its high quality (at least 192kbps but preferably higher), the sound should be decent. As far as just changing the cable making an improvement, I highly doubt changing the cable would do anything and if you tried to use the apple cable you'd get no sound. I noticed a difference in quality when I ditched the iPod all together and moved my MP3s to a USB flash drive. That bypasses the D/A conversion in the iPod which could help in improving the sound a little.

It is not the Ipod that sounds bad, it is a circuit in the aux in that is degrading the sound. Check this thread out....

I recommend you use the white apple cable simply because it's the only thing that works for me...I use it sometimes and the sound is perfect, the problem I have however is with the playlists you mentioned, they dont show up

I have no idea how to fix that...

does anybody know?
(sorry OP hope I don't jack your thread with the question)

Hmmm, I need to try that out. Did he just remove those white boxes? Does that not interrupt the connection?

I am curious about this as well. My car didn't come with any special cords that I'm aware of. I just plugged my iPod in with the white cable it came with and no dice. What does everyone else use?

There is absolutely zero solution for the chinese/japanese characters?

is there any way I can control the music from the iPod itself then???

how bad is the audio quality from the 6FL/AUX compared to CD and also compared to direct USB??

using aux in you can control all the music directly from the ipod...the only problem that sucks is if you want to switch songs or whatever while you are driving, you will have to constantly grab and look at the ipod etc.

i do that sometimes, but only with playlists so i just leave them on random and play. the sound quality is pretty good honestly, but if the auxin plus is slightly moved or twisted or whatever by accident, the sound fails slightly but it shouldnt happen since the plug is inside the armlean

I want a USB outlet like this in my center console by my AUX so I can just throw a flash drive in and go! Has anyone done this?

Huh? You mean exactly like the one in the picture. That's the OEM iPod integration option.

I thought the iPod integration option was in the glovebox not in the center console like where my AUX outlet is. BTW, my car did not come with the iPod integration.

The one in the glove box is for transferring data to/from the iDrive internal HDD (only on 2009 models). The iPod integration kit would replace the aux input shown in your picture.

Thanks. I was under the impresion that the iPod had to be in your glove box. That's why I really didn't look into it. So the the wiring in the center console for the USB are already there? If so, this should be an easy uprgrade.

Are you sure?
All I need is the y-cable to display foreign language?

I guess people confuse the 2. The center console (the one with the lid), or center 'glove box' is where both the USB and Aux inputs are (inside of it). At least on my '08. That's why the lid itself has an iPod pocket, but the problem is the part with the inputs is too close to the lid, and you have to bend the darn wires too much IMO.

A simple cable won't fix that.

What type of connector is this 4 pin round shape for USB shown in the picture. It looks smaller than mini din.

I hope that it has a wiring in the center console for the USB in the glove box because my car has no USB in glove box. If no wiring, I don't know what to do next?
