DCT Downshifting?

So I recently picked up a new 13 M3 with ZCP/DCT.

I noticed that when I come to a stop sign I usually let off the gas and depress the downshift paddle quickly multiple times, however, at times, it will stop at 3rd or 2nd gear. I know that the car will protect itself from an over rev, but I should drop from 7th gear to 1st when I'm doing 40mph coming to a stop sign.

When it prevents me from shifting to 1st, I usually give it a second and try it again, then all is good.

Is this what you guys experience?

Btw. Car only has 500 miles on it.

Give it some seat time, get used to the transmission. Go easy, it's learning.

Car will usually shift down to 2nd. Once you have come to a complete stop it should go into 1st. At least that is what my car does and I drive in S3 or S4 for city driving. I suppose if you are driving in D mode it may simply stay in 2nd like my old 550 would though I can't confirm that. What mode are you driving in?

I usually drive in S4

Even at speeds of 20 it seems to hesitate to drop into 1st gear.

I think I found some answers. The car seems to prevent me from downshifting when I'm in the lower rpms.

Yep, that explains it. If you want to maintain control of the gear selection while slowing you will have to downshift yourself.

In S1, the DCT will usually only drop to 2nd gear at a stop
