I find that Yahoo has better matches then Google.

For example, when you search N52 in Yahoo and Google.

Altavista was awesome. There was a very powerful feature I liked to use which was the NEAR search. What it did was allow you to search for a word near another word. So someone who might want to search on E92 M3 Brembo might get a million hits, but if you used the near function ie e92 near m3 near brembo those words would have to appear closer together and it lessened the amount of junk results you would get.

The other thing Google has going for it is the large number of systems doing all of its work. Altavista used a supercomputer model which doesn't scale as well.

Yeah Pretty Much. Buddy of mine is a hardcore systems/infrastructure guy. He's always on top of what's new and cool. He pointed me to Google around the same time, 1999.

It pretty much makes every other search engine superfluous. I own Stock, I'm a happy guy.

Umm... No not really, "better" is a completely subjective term but there is nothing more accurate, more poignant, or more appropriate about Yahoos results.

What you said is incorrect, Yahoo has their own search algorithms or methods.

In 2000 Yahoo made a deal with Google to have their search "powered" by Google, but that agreement/licensing has ended long ago.

think about it. hes not talking out of his ass. hes right in a way. thats exactly what he implied, that it was just like google. you only backed him up by saying it is powered by google, strengthening his point that there is no reason to use yahoo anyways.

this may be the only time in history that i actually side with the_blob. dont get used to it.

ohh and ive been using google since 2002, prior i use to use altavista.
