A Bugatti Veyron would probably handily out-do it. And probably the new Lambo 550-2

No way, one parks across the street from my office, it draws some in but it's not the same folks who gather around a Ferrari. The general public just sees the GTR as an oversized Celica, no offense meant to GTR or Celica owners.

OP, get the GTR if you can swing it. I would say the gtr is more reliable than the m3 both mt and dct. I have a couple friends with 350z, g35, fx35/35 and none of them have any issues whatsoever in 4 years of ownership. Plus as some said nissan fixed some of the initial issues with warranty, etc. gtr is more exclusive looking than the m3 for sure and I think the styling is very aggresive and unique, but make sure you get it in black or grey. |

I'm not sure why people put the gt3 (a race car) to the regular gtr. The gtr was meant to compete with the turbo but I guess the turbo loss, so people have to put the gt3 in there because it has more raw feel, etc... If you really want a gt3 competitor, put the gtr spec v in there. the only downside of the gtr is replacement parts cost. e.g. the brake is extremely expensive to replace but it is kinda normal for car in this caliper. |

The maintenance costs for a GTR are anything but normal for a car of this caliber. A 997tt, the coming facelifted 997.2tt and S, and GT2 are all far less expensive to maintain. The 997.2tt and ttS will put a lot of hurt on GTRs too boot. You'll see them on the Ring in a rather short time. Last edited by devo; 06-30-2009 at 08:10 PM.. |

"I'm not sure I've ever been quizzed so much about a car, nor had such overwhelmingly positive reactions. A Ferrari tends to put up a barrier – perhaps it suggest you’re rich and arrogant to many; a Porsche tends to slip by unnoticed, but the GT-R just draws people in.” And you can tell yourself that but I'm not so sure the general public thinks of the GTR as an over-sized Celica.

GTR is a Super Car... so you have to deal with its down sides. Just like when you have a LAMBO and they have to drop the engine to change its fluids and costs you 2k and you dont get a loaner car.. lol...
M3 is a everyday car with a SOUL and passion for the road. with a trunk and usable back seats. and all your services are included in the first 4 yrs. |

Think of the Mitsubushi Evo 8 when it came out, everyone was crazy over it because of its perfromance, now look at it's resale value; these high performance Japanese cars' build quality sucks, the reason is aside from build quality these are cars that people tend to beat up and personalize in a very "Ricey" way. When you go to resell them or trade them in (Despite yours being in mint condition) no body wants one and you get low balled due to the stereotype that follows them...now look at an old BMW, people still go crazy for them because its a BMW; my point is, avoid the Ricey GTR and stick with your M3 simply for DEPRECIATION purposes...

I drove a friend's GT-R a couple of times before buying my M3. Performance is stunning, that's not even debatable. I also feel it's more exciting looking in person than any M3 variant. However, it felt a bit short in the visceral aspects to me - it was very easy to haul ass through the twisties, even my granny could have kicked many good driver's butts from behind the wheel. I missed the involvement of a 6MT, even though the DCT was no doubt faster and more efficient. Lastly, it didn't have near as exciting an engine note as the M3.
The real deal killers for me, though, were no sedan config (or real back seat), questionable warranty coverage, and high maint. costs. Still a killer car, as long as you know what you're getting into. The E90 M3 fit my needs much better, though, and I have no regrets.

I know one reason why not to get a GTR.....
When I picked up my wife from the airport and took her to her to a restaurant at a big family re-union, the M3 got a lot of classy remarks. When her cousins GTR pulled in, all the high schoolers ran outside and the old folk were wondering if transformers was filming in the parking lot. |

People that buy evo's and whatnot's are young they don't have back problems and they realize they are mostly paying for the engine, but the gt-r was not built for that crowd rather for mature car enthusiasts, who've been around the block and have the money to buy such an expensive car. These would be the same people that are on the edge of buying an m, porsche or any other high end car, so comments on their "mod taste" would apply to everyone on the m boards as well. These other japanese companies you mention might be able to get away with low-par interior quality on a lesser model such as the z or civic si just because young people don't mind, but with the gt-r they know adults will take the interior into consideration. Although it may "suck" compared to a bmw it is by no means uncomfortable or hard to live with ( yes i have been in one ). You mentioned build quality, you should look into how meticulously every piece of the gt-r is put together and you might be suprised. If you are old, back pains, can't handle stiff ride, and mind driving a nissan after x years of hard work so you can buy a nice car then the m. If you are middle aged, haven't started getting the aches and pains yet, don't mind too much of what other people think of you, and LOVE driving and the thrill of racing around than the gt-r it is. |

it's a Nissan....enough said...
by the way I am not comparing the performance of the Evo to the GTR; I am comparing the noise it made when it hit the states...similar to the GTR and now look at it...people still look and admire when they see an E36 or E46 M3, people don't look that way at Japanese Imports. Re: Investments, obviously all cars depreciate but some more than others, if you are going to buy a car you might as well buy one that people will still desire when its a few years old.

I've sat in a Hyundai Genesis, and the steering felt so "plastic". Everything else was ok, but the steering felt horrible. In contrast, the M3's steering feels incredible, and you pay for it too. |
