Happens sometimes, it is nice. Had a guy follow me for a couple of miles, waving to me, etc. He followed me into a parking lot, told me he followed me to see the car up close. Young guy, nice enough. Always nice for thers to enjoy what you enjoy.

The actual definition of the term is "Any modification intended to give the illusion of superior performance, when no such performance actually exists". This is different from tasteless or cheap, although many rice mods, are in fact tasteless and cheap. It is applicable to any nationality of car.

Here is a link to the origins of the whole phenomenon....from the annals of automotive history!!!!!......

That is waaaay too broad of a definition. That could be anything from fake flames to loud exhaust (even with small tips) that insinuate a strong engine. That could also encompass muscle cars that have fake hood pins. Anyways, that's just my opinion.

Im in Germany so you can say that BMWs are pretty common here. I still see the folks turn around and look at El Superbeasto.

The best was when a guy at the car wash comes over freaking out asking me when they made the M3 in a sedan. He wanted to talk about it forever. I told him he could check it out and sit inside. I popped the hood open and he was just in awe. It was fun and I think he got a kick out of it. Shook my hand and was talking with his buds about it over on the drying rack.

Ya, the M3 is a beautiful, cool car no matter what model.

Picked my M3 up in Nashua NH and hung around with family and everywhere I went people would just ask questions and always compliment the look of the car.

The flames and exhaust would not be rice if you have 500hp. It would be rice if you have 120hp. Again, RICE doesn't have to be cheap and tacky (although it often is)

Nothing cheap and tacky about an M badge in and of itself. Put it on a 128i and it becomes a rice mod.

I received many more double takes and admirers in Germany (Not counting the area around Nurburgring), then I have in the states.

Comparatively, car culture in Maryland pales in comparison to California. Sure in So Cal, half the M's are driven by drivers who have no idea what's under the hood, but at least the other half know what's up.

I've met 2 people in the 2 months I've had the car here who knew anything about the car.

There were 4 E92 M3s parked in the gym parking lot this AM. I'd say fellow E92 drivers wave back ~40% of the time. Sometimes they prob don't see me, sometimes they're prob like "why is this civic driver waving at me . . ."

haha. LA is a crazy place.

Well, BMWs are common there, but remember:

A E9X M3 costs in Germany around the same as a used F430 does in the United States.

When doing ED, I was surprised when kids would come up and ask to sit in the car and take pictures. Then I realized it's a bit more of an exotic over there.

Anyway, yesterday was a little warmer and the weather was clear so I had the M3 out. I am still amazed at the attention the car gets.

I had one guy in an Audi A6 pull next to me at a light, roll down his window, and gave me all sorts of compliments, thumbs up, etc. etc.

Then, a guy in a 3-series coupe almost came to a dead stop in the middle of an intersection while turning as he just stared at my car. Honestly could have caused a serious accident. You would've thought my M3 was a naked woman or something !!

Just wanted to share.

Its the color man, that type of silver/grey just shines!
