Congrats!

I got mine last month. I'm a long time bimmer guy as well. No regrets I need to post some pics. Mine is super silver. Your car looks great. I was initially going to get a black black edition (I almost always buy black cars) out of state as it was the only one I could find. I then found a super silver locally and was sold immediately. This car honestly looks good in all colors. How do you like the rims? I saw your post over on NAGTROC. GTRs seem popular in NC. Nice garage.

Thanks everyone! Posted up some impressions below...

We have the right as former M friends to hear more about the car performance. Yes we can read about it in any magazine or online reviews but it would be much more interesting coming from a hard core M enthusiast like you. Give us your opinion on how GTR is different than M3 in:
-Low end torque (tons more compared to the M3)
-high RPM response (I was thinking today how this engine feels like a NA engine - Nissan has done a fantastic job)
-Fast cornering and handling (Will know better tomorrow when I go to VIR)
-Brakes (exceptional. Great pedal feel and it just sheds speed)
-Shifting speed, up and down (not as harsh as the M3 in S5/6 mode. I think this is to protect the trans and shifting depends to some degree on how hard the car's being driven)

-Ease or complexity of changing driving modes (very simple as there aren't as many. but the car always resets to "normal" modes on restart and there is no equivalent to the M button)
-overall quality of ride (quite a bit firmer but not overly harsh)
-overall quality of interior materials (not as good generally but pretty nice)
-sounds (engine, exhaust or rattles)(exhaust is too quiet, lightweight flywheel rattles to some degree and diff clunks. None of it thought takes away from the character of the car. There is a lot of road noise when on coarse/rough pavement but otherwise a pretty quiet/comfortable ride)
Overall I really really like this car. It truly is in another league in terms of performance. That being said, there are a few things I don't like:

- the million ways to void the warranty
- beeping sound inside the car when in reverse
- shift paddles are stationary/will not move. I prefer the M3 shift paddle setup

So after 1 week of ownership and almost 1k miles - I can highly recommend this car!

Thanks,
BC

You probably don't remember me but we purchased Moton and PF brakes from James around the same time. Enjoy your new ride!

Please post your VIR lap times in the GT-R - I'd like to compare them to my e46 (track prep'd) & e92 lap times.

I think Martin's note above is pretty indicative of what to expect with the mods he's listed...

Like your garage more than the car, but I'm happy that you're happy.

It does. He probably did that quickly.

Straight from owner's manual:

"Please observe the following types of driving
until the mileage shown below has been
reached.
Until 300 miles (500 km):
. Do not depress the accelerator pedal more
than halfway and avoid rapid acceleration.
. Drive with the engine speed kept at less
than 3,500 RPM.
. Avoid unnecessary quick steering, abrupt
braking and driving on poor roads.

300 to 600 miles (500 to 1,000 km)
. Avoid rapid acceleration in a low gear (1st to
3rd gears) with the accelerator pedal fully
depressed. Depress the pedal slowly.
. Avoid unnecessary quick steering and
abrupt braking.
. Drive with the suspension setup switch in
the COMF mode to allow more suspension
stroke.

600 to 1,200 miles (1,000 to 2,000 km)
. Drive with the engine speed kept relatively
high with the shift lever in the M position.
Shifting is recommended between 1st and
4th gears.
. Avoid unnecessary quick steering and
abrupt braking.
. Drive with the suspension setup switch in
the COMF mode to allow more suspension
stroke."

Congrats. The GTR is a completely different beast on the track. By far the most fun car I've driven/rode in on the track.
